General community for news/discussion in the UK.

Less serious posts should go in !casualuk@feddit.uk or !andfinally@feddit.uk
More serious politics should go in !uk_politics@feddit.uk.

Try not to spam the same link to multiple feddit.uk communities.
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric news, and should be either a link to a reputable source, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread.

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

Good, because fuck people who buy properties just to ~~earn~~ steal money.

This mean that house prices will fall since fewer buyers will be interested. The question is whether the houses will be gobbled up by private equity or will be allowed to fall down enough for more people to start buying houses to live in

[–] Nighed@feddit.uk 10 points 1 week ago

There was a short term burst of 1/2 bed houses on the market. It's mostly worked through now.

Source: I want to move house.

[–] djdarren@piefed.social 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Nah, the houses will be bought by investment firms. Rent prices ain't going anywhere.

weeps

[–] Khanzarate@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

Only if those firms smell a profit, which apparently means selling them, rather than renting them.

Unused property makes no money.

I see hope, but likely the government will need to continue to support this.

Hahaha! Good. That gets rid of the shit landlords. The changes aren't even that dramatic. You can't get rid of a tenant if they haven't done anything wrong, is one of the new changes. If that makes a landlord "quit" then good riddance

"Quitting" = selling their homes for people to buy and live in

[–] Officer_Pickles@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago

Oh dear, how sad, never mind.

~~Just when you thought the the web had moved on from the eye pollution of banner ads….~~

It’s always nice to be reminded of why you blocked hexbear and .ml.

[–] kip@piefed.zip 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

wouldn't decent forums have had rules against putting massive garish shit in your signature

[–] ClathrateG@hexbear.net 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Nope, but a lot of the old BBcode forums would have an option to hide/show people's sigs

[–] kip@piefed.zip 3 points 1 week ago

well thank god we don't have that option here

[–] Horse@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 1 week ago

[–] blackn1ght@feddit.uk 8 points 1 week ago

Oh no! Anyway...

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

Most of them overpaid and overmorgaged. They had to rent out at the highest possible rent to generate profit. Now they get fucked by their own greed.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 6 points 1 week ago
