This scene raises my heart rate so bad. It's wild knowing that you could show this to some people and have them decide that they want to be in his place.
There's always a chunk of people who want to be the boot. And a chunk of people who are happy to eat boots if they can be the boot sometimes.
There do exist some people who want that power fantasy, as once the law cease to exist, wield assault rifles as the symbol of their power, feeling they can determine the fate of anyone they capture or run into.
I love this movie so much. Just wanted to say that.
It keeps getting realer and realer.
I avoid watching this film for the same reason that I've avoided watching Idiocracy, Don't Look Up, and Black Mirror; it will just make me suicidally depressed because it's just getting closer and closer to real life.
Idiocracy has some hope and redemption for humanity.
Don't Look Up... saw it once, felt more like traumatic horror than dark comedy.
When my friends and I went to the big march after Renee Good was murdered I had the opening song, Lovefingers by Silver Apples, stuck in my head the whole time. Afterward we went back to my house and watched the movie. The next morning I woke up to the news that they murdered Alex Pretti. It’s a good movie, but I hate how relevant that movie is.
What movie is this?
Civil war. I think it was divisive cause it didn’t really make any political statement. Just showed a take on a modern day civil war.
I loved the vibe of it I think. And the direction of the IRL world feels genuinely represented in this movie. It was a ride. Plus I love everything Kirsten Dunst is in basically.
I loved everything about the movie except Kirsten Dunst. I have nothing against her personally, but in this movie she looked like she was just reciting lines, no acting involved. I know she was supposed to be this tired, jaded character but to me she overdid it and landed on plain boring.
It looks good, but I can't bring myself to watch it. It's far too close to today.

Fuck anyone who shits on someone who served their country for 20 years. I'm not simping for the military, but public service is still something to be respected IMO.
Lol I don't disagree but it's funny to see the votes on Lemmy. Just yesterday someone was getting upvoted for generalising all SAS veterans because of 1 they met + 2 which made the news. But now we're talking about a trans woman so suddenly people agree we need to respect people who served
Winning over the common soldier is an effective an important strategy in war.
Because, as reality would show, the moment people stop giving two craps about you is when you wake up with a primed grenade in your bunk and a pre-written report of your 'valiant death in the line of duty.'
Or if we're going old school, 27 stab wounds from the enemy, despite being kilometers away from the front.

She's not a cis white male so people like Hegseth don't want her in the military in the first place. Not sure why a trans person would want to serve in an organization that actively hates them. This is a classic example of leopards eating faces.
I think people haven't read your three sentences, because I think everyone would agree at the start, but most disagree by the end. She's been in for 20 years. That's where you get your pension. She joined and served through bush Obama trump Biden and now trump again. This isn't a leopards eating face thing, considering 20 years ago I'm not sure she was aware she'd be a she yet.
A lot of us join pre realization. It's a way to "man up" both for trans women trying desperately to become enough of a man like they were "supposed to be" and a masculine career that conservative parents approve of for closeted trans men. Then, especially if you're an officer, once you're in and used to it it's a career with great benefits including a full pension after 20 years and the alternative is often a full career change.
Oh also enlisting is a popular "career of last resort" for people struggling to function in society without any known disqualifying disabilities. Incidentally, a lot of trans people's pre realization dysphoria leads to having no idea why you can't just get your shit together and develop discipline. And since the military promises it'll give you discipline it can be attractive, especially when combined with the prior paragraph.

Want to tell that the the African Americans who also went into the military despite being openly hated?
This isn't about leopards eating faces, this is about a brave person fighting for basic human rights, human dignity, and making progress against bullshit bigotry conservatives yet again.

I think TriCare used to cover surgery.
It did, and even before then there were ways to get the VA to do it, especially for trans men's top surgery.
I'm happy that in my country of citizenship trans people are excluded from the army. I don't wanna get drafted or something.

To be fair, the entire western world has been told to be the wrong kind of ally by US. So it's at least consistent.
I have trans friends and have met a number of trans people through them and I would trust all of them over any MAGAt traitor, any day.
MAGAts hate America. They couldn't make that any more clear than they already have.
