A few winters ago, my wife and I took edibles and then like a half hour noticed some weird movement on our porch.
It was a 13 year old who had run away from home and snuck onto our porch. She was attempting to stay warm by huddling under the dog blankets we keep out there.

After a short delay (figuring out what the hell was going on), we called the police. They arrived as the edibles were hitting and we had to keep our shit together while trying to talk to the cops about this kid that randomly appeared.

At least here, there's what I think are called "good Samaritan" laws that state no one may be charged if one is in an altered state of mind while calling about an overdose. Every example I've ever encountered has been specifically about an overdose, but I would think doing a good deed despite the risk would grant some leeway, from the court if not the cop.

Unless you're in like Utah, where the church still has a fairly firm grasp on the local government, most cops really don't give a fuck about pot any more unless you're driving.

[–] Instigate@aussie.zone 11 points 1 week ago (3 children)

In a lot of jurisdictions it’s also not illegal to be under the influence of a narcotic unless there are other factors involved - driving a car, being a public nuisance, or otherwise engaging in criminal behaviour. If you’re high in your own home not bothering anyone (and you’ve already taken all the drugs you have so you’re not otherwise in possession of any) you’re not committing a crime. That would apply in this case.

Is that why schnozberries taste like schnozberries?

[–] abigscaryhobo@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Yep. In a lot of places (check your local, I ain't a lawyer) being under the influence isn't illegal. It's the supplemental stuff where you are either in possession or putting others at risk. But being stoned in your own home hanging out is (in most places) legal.

[–] ramjambamalam@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 week ago

Who takes ALL their drugs at once?

[–] chocrates@piefed.world 9 points 1 week ago

Some of them apply to rendering aid too, so if you try to save someone's life and fail you won't be charged with anything.

Doesn't want the brave public servants of his majesty's constabulary to contract her communicable conjunctivitis. Very thoughtful, really.

[–] FinjaminPoach@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Yes genuinely is that what the post is about? I thought the post was about that, too

Edit: I am a 🟥

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 23 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You're a red square?

How's the weather in Moscow these days?

[–] FinjaminPoach@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

If i am that particular red square that would also make me a beautiful square, Спасибо.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

No idea why the Voyager built in translation tool thought I'd prefer my answer in Spanish, but de nada, I guess 😄 🤷🏻

[–] nymnympseudonym@piefed.social 57 points 1 week ago (4 children)

Please help understand. Am dumb; do not get

[–] bamboo@lemmy.blahaj.zone 119 points 1 week ago (2 children)

her eyes are red from smoking the marijuana, and hiding it from the cops behind her.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 90 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I'm so American I thought she'd been pepper sprayed and her eyes were still red while in custody

[–] stickyprimer@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

I’m so American it’s not a crime to smoke it where I live.

[–] cheat700000007@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago

I'm so Canadian I thought where's the problem

[–] LodeMike@lemmy.today 13 points 1 week ago (6 children)

Is this not the UK where it's decriminalized?

[–] outlawcarl@fedinsfw.app 23 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Its not really decriminalized more just lack of enforcement beacue they have better things to do, its still a type B substance i think..

To be honest i thought it was that his arse was in her face now that is somthing i have had happen alot.

[–] bran_buckler@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago

He farted in her general direction and gave her conjunctivitis…

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

Decriminalized doesn't mean legal.

[–] otacon239@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago (4 children)

And can a cop (legally) arrest you if you’re just high and aren’t actively doing the drug and not breaking any other laws?

[–] Catoblepas@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

In the US some states call that ‘internal possession’, it’s mostly used so that they have something to charge teenagers with when they catch them high. Dunno how the UK compares.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 1 week ago

internal possession

Wow. That's equal parts draconian and moronic 🤦🏻

[–] blight@piefed.blahaj.zone 8 points 1 week ago

In Sweden they can (and do). The police here take about 55 000 blood and urine samples per year for drug use convictions. It's awful.

[–] portnull@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Once the substance is in your body it is denatured. Therefore no possession charge. Only of you are driving etc is it a problem

She's probably more worried about probable cause for a search

Edit :ianal but learned this at uni in some sub course

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@piefed.world 6 points 1 week ago (2 children)

It's effectively decriminalized everywhere but when marijuana junkies get all hopped up on the devil's lettuce they get paranoid and murdery.

[–] Apytele@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

It's waaay safer than alcohol especially in smoked straight off the plant non GMO strength weed but yeah a processed 200-300mg strength edible can absolutely cause psychosis in the wrong person (it's funny, one of my old psychiatrists actually said something to the effect of 'they're breeding the weed waaay stronger than what my generation was smoking in college...). I've had a looot of schiz spectrum patients who just can't admit that weed or especially edibles are a problem for them and causing their psychosis keep winding up in the hospital.

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I remember the last time I got all hopped up on some sinner's spinach. Man did I do some violence... I went out a straight murked some (pani) popos and a bunch of innocent crackers. I really gotta start limiting my starch intake.

The cop farted so hard, it made her eyes red.

[–] justdaveisfine@piefed.social 16 points 1 week ago (1 children)

She's high and doesn't want the cop to notice.

We kind of needed that reference. Didnt know that was supposed to be a cop. I'm from America so.

[–] qwank@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

Eyes redder than the devil's dick

[–] balderdash9@lemmy.zip 43 points 1 week ago

Years ago a friend I had worked with on the road was visiting my country and stopped by to hang out for a day. We were siting in my back yard and he pulled out a blunt and asked if it was OK. I said sure.

He lit up and took a drag and then some guy rounds the corner of my house running for the back fence and up and over.

Then a cop runs past us and over the fence. Then a dog followed by two more cops. the cops help the dog over the fence and off they all go.

After a bit I said 'Don't worry. Happens all the time.'

[–] driving_crooner@lemmy.eco.br 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

There's something "it's always sunny in Philadelphia" do right and is the make up when they're high or drunk on wine. A lot of series have scenes where the characters are high but never give them red eyes

[–] bran_buckler@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Are the red eyes just from smoking? I take edibles all the time, but my eyes are never red from it

[–] _skj@lemmy.world 13 points 1 week ago

Dry eyes are a common side effect of THC, especially larger doses. This is the main reason people have red eyes and squint when high. The smoke may also cause irritation making it worse.

[–] deus@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

I thought that was Greta Thunberg for a second

[–] LORDSMEGMA@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 week ago

Is that the UK? I haven't been either

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Me, 30 years ago driving in Banff high as fuck in the middle of the night (long story):

Cop pulls me over for rolling through a stop sign. "Have you been drinking?"

Me: "Drinking? No."

Wife in passenger seat: "Ffffffff....!"
