  1. Pretty typical ignorant Dallas Karen energy
  2. I'm more concerned about the 76 thumbs-up
  3. Just FYI, this was the 2017 eclipse and in Dallas it was kinda neat but nowhere near totality.

To add to the FYI, there's a partial eclipse tomorrow evening in Europe. The farther north you are the better you can see it.

Partial is pointless, really. Which is why I have to hope it'll be visible here in Iceland.

Partial really is "kinda neat." The light level noticeably reduces a bit, like a very big cloud, and all the little dapples on the ground turn crescent shaped. More eerie than mind-blowing though. We got a minute of totality in 2024, which was very, very cool.

If you're in Iceland then you're actually in luck, the path of totality does cross over the west of the country. Wikipedia has helpful details of timings and places https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_eclipse_of_August_12,_2026#Eclipse_timing

Yep! Flew here from Los Angeles, landed on Monday morning.

Unfortunately, 4:47pm (eta: I was off by an hour, it's 5:47pm, was reading UTC) local time isn't looking good, and it's way too late to try and get a car and drive to the Westfjords

some parts are going to be totally eclipsed:

A wide band of north and central Spain, plus a sliver of Portugal and parts of Greenland and Iceland will experience a rare total eclipse.

Or we can move the calendar to make it land on a weekend. Should be easy

legit though, just make eclipses holidays and the problem is solved.

It's actually kind of messed up that we don't.

[–] Earthwormjim91@lemmy.world 0 points 1 month ago

Why?

The absolutely maximum time you could be in totality during a solar eclipse is 7 minutes and 32 seconds, across a very very narrow path of land.

Partial eclipses are cool, but not really worth taking any time out of your day for.

If you’re in the path, taking all of less than 10 minutes to walk outside and see it covers it lol.

Actually, you'd have to reschedule the moon. ☝️🤓

[–] EisFrei@lemmy.world 0 points 1 month ago

*Farnsworth voice* Good news everyone! The solar eclipse has been rescheduled to August 12th.

[–] Jankatarch@lemmy.world 0 points 1 month ago

Well what else do you propose, we reschedule the schools or something??

[–] ReluctantZen@feddit.nl 0 points 1 month ago

I mean, the actual eclipse is on the 12th, so unless this is from a previous solar eclipse, having a solar eclipse party 9 days after the actual eclipse is pretty weird.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 0 points 1 month ago

The answer is that, yes, you can still have the party on the weekend.
