Probably a matter of time until the other major console brands follow suit

[–] XLE@piefed.social 4 points 1 week ago

Precisely this. Even if you hate Microsoft, you do not want this to be normalized.

Maybe this will make people start caring about privacy, but I think they will just put up with anything, like they always have.

It's AU. They say "yes daddy" to every authoritarian, then act holier than thou and call other places a "shithole country" when they won't lick the boots too.

I agree with the bit about us accepting too much nanny state stuff but I don’t know if we think we’re better than everyone else. Just the poms, the yanks, our neighbours and… oh I see it now.

I'm gonna be so annoyed, my account is literally 20 years old.

Has already been the case in Singapore but they require us to login to our digital government ID on some external vendor's site which no one sure if they're even reliable or not. It's easy to work around by changing your account's region though.

Fuck don't suggest anything to Malaysian government

At that point, yeah, piracy is not merely action against subverted intellectual property laws but action against government restrictions on civil liberties.

It also means consuming restricted content is an act of political resistance.

Well, for me, when this comes to the U.S.A., that's when I stop using the technology unless I get my hands on pirated software and alternate hardware.

I'm quite capable of walking away from all this. Heck, I swore off video games for 20 years because World of Warcrack was eating my life, so I have receipts.

Smart. Nobody should be giving palantir data voluntarily.

presumably based on age of your email or Xbox account

So, if we take for example, someone getting an Xbox and account at 17. With this in place, the least invasive way means that players won't be allowed to buy or play an R18 game until they turn reach 35+
