I just started Stargate SG-1 not too long ago. I wouldn't call it perfect, but it does hold up decently and is pretty entertaining. 10 seasons too.

[–] MisterCurtis@lemmy.world 22 points 1 week ago (2 children)

It's amazing how every planet in Stargate looks like the Pacific Northwest. The Ancients must have really liked evergreens.

Also pretty convenient that most of the aliens are quite human-like, and most of them seem to speak English pretty well.

[–] SapphironZA@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 week ago

Its the James T Kirk paradox. Every alien species must be fuckable.

[–] Zorque@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

They actually comment about this in a couple episodes.

[–] mikenurre@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Plus 5 seasons of Atlantis and two SGU

[–] Zorque@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Oh man, an extra five seasons to enjoy :D

Oh man I haven't thought about SG-1 in years. It has more explosions per episode than it does deep plots but it's a great ride.

Still haven't watched Firefly...

[–] Godort@lemmy.ca 18 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

It's good, but I'm not sure if it holds up if you aren't already nostalgic for it.

It has so much of that Joss Whedon wry sarcastic dialogue that has become the replacement for comedy in modern movies

[–] its_kim_love@lemmy.blahaj.zone 13 points 1 week ago

Yeah I was ride or die for Firefly back in the day and it still does things that were impressive at the time, but my love for Whedon has definitely lost some of its shine. Especially his "strong" women characters that feel like barely the baseline today. It probably helped make that possible, but it doesn't seem to stand out nearly as much as it did in the 00s.

these Star Trek series:

Star Trek: The next generation

ST: Deep Space Nine

ST: Strange New Worlds

ST: Picard

Non star trek:

Rome (the old HBO show)

Mr. Robot

Breaking Bad

Better Call Saul

Haunting of Hill House

[–] sicarius@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago

I highly recommend Mr. Robot and Dark if you haven't seen them. Although Dark has only three seasons.

Dexter, House, Scrubs. Just to name a few.

[–] giacomo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 week ago

apparently Dexter just waits a decade before resurfacing.

still waiting on House though.

[–] hitmyspot@aussie.zone 1 points 1 week ago

Decter started off great and then each season gets worse until it's dull.

[–] giacomo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 1 week ago

what about when its 3 seasons and ends before the writers knew

[–] hperrin@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 week ago

You become AI slop?

[–] jeff@programming.dev 6 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

A few more:

  • Malcom in the Middle
  • Psych
[–] slazer2au@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

And you play the game of how many seasons can I watch before I need to be awake.

[–] Blue_Morpho@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Doctor Who. Or as I like to refer to it: Inspector Spacetime.

[–] segfault11@hexbear.net 4 points 1 week ago

you can’t say this and not drop the show

[–] MidsizedSedan@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Roommates was a webseries on YouTube.

It may not be 8 seasons long, but its nice and short enough to binge all in one night.

[–] Hundun@beehaw.org 3 points 1 week ago

That's how I binged Supernatural two years ago, what a show!

[–] diffaldo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

If you like horror-drama, "From" series is good to binge watch.

[–] Kwakigra@beehaw.org 2 points 1 week ago

The Sopranos

[–] guillem@aussie.zone 1 points 1 week ago

For me the sweet spot is 3 or 4 seasons AND knowing that the whole thing is self-conclusive.

[–] Lodespawn@aussie.zone 1 points 1 week ago

Fringe was fantastic back in the day, not sure how it holds up today though
