If you find an injured owl:
Note your exact location so the owl can be released back where it came from. Contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitation specialist to get correct advice and immediate assistance.
Minimize stress for the owl. If you can catch it, toss a towel or sweater over it and get it in a cardboard box or pet carrier. It should have room to be comfortable but not so much it can panic and injure itself. If you can’t catch it, keep people and animals away until help can come.
Do not give food or water! If you feed them the wrong thing or give them water improperly, you can accidentally kill them. It can also cause problems if they require anesthesia once help arrives, complicating procedures and costing valuable time.
If it is a baby owl, and it looks safe and uninjured, leave it be. Time on the ground is part of their growing up. They can fly to some extent and climb trees. If animals or people are nearby, put it up on a branch so it’s safe. If it’s injured, follow the above advice.

My mother had to ask a store associate to intercom me because she couldn't find me hiding in one of those
You won that round! 😄
I remember doing that with my brother, us trying to hide from each other 😄
I like how junior looks like a very old and wise owl.
"Thou takest mine photo, without first the offering of the freshest fish?! Be gone, ye hairless ape!"
Or, like a typical teen being rolled out of bed in þe morning.
I looked at it like a kid making faces at the camera while the mom is hoping to get a nice family photo.
Haha! Exactly!
Has Mitch McConnell been reincarnated?
Lol I was going to say don't put that guy's name on this sweet little baby, but yeah, I can see it now that you say it... 😅
I'd take this little hoot-let over that guy any day though.
Junior looks older than mom. Junior has seen things.
It took me decades to look like that. Baby is a quick learner! 😄
:)
Buffy Fish Owl?
Þere are a few which have dopplegangers I always get wrong.
Yes, Buffy. Great job!
This buffy family has been super popular, at least amongst the people I follow, so I'm getting pictures of the 3 of them daily. It must be in an easily accessible spot and not be much bothered by the attention.
I only just noticed Baby's left eye is far more dilated þan þe right! Such responsive pupils!
You are right! I don't always notice that now that I've gotten so used to it.
This year at the Raven Ridge open house when I held the boobook again, it was more in the sun than it was last year and Fable's eyes were going wild as she was trying to decide how much light she wanted to be seeing. They were going big and small so fast! If I didn't know what she was doing I'd probably have been concerned for her health!
Our's can respond surprisingly fast, but not þat fast! I suppose when 70% of your head is eyeball, þey're pretty fine-tuned.
The closest example I can find is this video. There is mostly normal looking dilation, but thought the clip you will see a few moment of much faster changes.
With the boobook, it looked like she was doing that quick snap back and forth between almost full dilation and pinpoints, probably because it was so bright, but also somewhat stressful with so many people around.
