2. No bigotry or harassment, be civil

No bigotry, hardline stance. Try not to get too heated when entering into a discussion or debate.

France's left-wing presidential candidate

it’s mélenchon, for those who were wondering

[–] arcine@jlai.lu 3 points 5 days ago

Is he going to be a candidate again !? I thought the last race was his last !

Despite my personal liking for him (justified or not) ; I hope someone a little more "amicable" takes his place. Many people are scared of him, some for understandable reasons.

Typical politician talking about things people want but isn't actually going to change.

The problem with games is that they are ruled by IP law, which was codified globally a few decades ago and is completely anti-consumer. Even if a country wanted to change them, it's likely the US would crush them before that.

He literaly plans to end the republic and create a new one by gathering randomly selected citizens in a room, so if you like change you can't expect more

What we all need is more democracy. In fact, we are seeing the shadow of Nazism returning.

[–] synapse1278@lemmy.world 10 points 5 days ago (2 children)

That is exactly the point of this movement. France 5th Republic has the president holding too much power. They want to write a new constitution, the 6th Republic, to address this issue and establish a system with more power separation and balance. And possibly more space for direct democracy?

[–] nicpicname@lemmy.zip 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

My question is why must the entire Republic be changed? I am not French or into French politics so I don't know why the republics change so often?

[–] Blisterexe@lemmy.zip 9 points 4 days ago (1 children)

It's a long story but basically instead of doing amendments the french like to start with a clean slate every time the current system seems inadequate.

Previous republics ended due to wars, revolutions and political deadlock.

He also has opinions on the EU and those happen to be quite of the kind Putin approves.

[–] REDACTED@infosec.pub 1 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Left-wing

Has opinions Putin would approve

Huh?

[–] Jiral@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Putin doesn't really care if European countries are governed by leftists, fascists or whoever, as long as they are nationalists, working towards the balkanisation of Europe and the functional destruction of the EU because this is the precondition to enable the next stepd of Russian conquest and domination of Europe.

There are not only right Putinist parties in the EU. In Germany Wagenknecht is openly defending Russian positions and pretends to be left as well.

One can be left-wing and still dislike the EU.

[–] Jiral@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

His views go beyond dislike. He wants the EU functionally dismantled and that is why Putin doesn't care if he or Le Pen make it to power.

So far, there’s a slightly growing sentiment of politicians to preserve games, but so far as I know, none of them have specifically mentioned cases of reselling them. I’m curious what’s going to happen when that enters the conversation.

Especially since, we’re likely headed for a digital future anyway - just that we might manage those licenses on a drive, not a disc. And if reselling can happen on an account or a hard drive, we’ll need to think about what a script kiddy with Python and an LLM would do with resellable licenses.
