It’s crazy how the soccer games are a major distraction for countries..

[–] ggtdbz@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (2 children)

I don’t know how this comment makes me feel because even people at the displacement shelters here in Lebanon are excited to watch the World Cup.

I feel like a lot of people, especially Americans who do not care for football, underestimate how universal this is. It’s much more honest of a distraction from the horrors of life than corpo pop culture

Edit: On second thought I know exactly how I feel. I think this is pretty condescending. The world is fucked. A hostile army is inside my country and I believe we are being pressured to formally allow them to occupy land so we don’t fuck up the peace deal that is being negotiated right now. We have zero agency over what happens in our fucking country, regardless of how democratic or feudal we are.

Let us at least enjoy the football. The Olympics and World Cup were frequently hosted by dictators, doesn’t minimize the feats people achieved or the fun of watching. Bread and circuses is some first world reductionism. People need bread. A bit of circuses is fun. Meeting up with friends and watching the games is always great, especially when you consider the only other thing to talk about is being fucked by war or fucked by work (if you think the economy is rough where you are, it’s probably not worse than here). If it’s at home FIFA isn’t getting any money out of us anyway.

I think it was more commenting on the rest of the world being occupied with the world cup and Israel using that distraction to attack, knowing the coverage will be more limited because of it. By all means take any joy or solace you can get.

I remember there was some user named NEOdraconix or something like that, that asked for help in Gaza, hopefully still alive somehow. They had children with them...

like how heavily it wash pushed too. add in alittle iran war news too. its so unnatural how much airtime its getting, when the past events dint even get noticed by news that much. of course INFANTINO is all in for the distraciton.

[–] mabeledo@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

I’m sorry, are you suggesting that past World Cup events weren’t “on the news”, when 5 billion people watched the 2022 tournament?!

The irony is not beyond me in saying this, but.. I hope someone nukes Israel off the map, enough of this shit. Fuck your "promised land", terrorist pieces of shit.

[–] hark@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Unfortunately, at times it feels like that is the only thing that would stop that death cult. However, I would hope instead all countries dropping support for israel and sanctioning them until they stop would be enough.

They're arrogant because of all the backing they've received from powerful countries over the years. They need to be humbled.

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

I don’t think sanctioning Nazi germany would have helped. I think this will turn into a world war to stop the United States/ Israeli greater genocide project and both sides will be sponsored by the Rothschild’s

[–] Strider@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

backing they've received

More like extorted

[–] edible_funk@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

I kinda feel like we should glass every sacred holy site of any imperialistic religion worldwide.

[–] wpb@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

There's a couple million Palestinians living there that do not deserve to be nuked.

[–] WorldsDumbestMan@lemmy.today 2 points 2 days ago

I can't help but agree. Sometimes you just need to send a message, in WW2 with Japan.

It's either that, or let 10 million people bully the whole world.

[–] Mac@mander.xyz 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Very Israeli and MAGA mindset

[–] signalsayge@infosec.pub 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

... and then Jesus comes, right?

[–] lolo@sh.itjust.works 20 points 2 days ago

I mean, a world without Israel is enough to make me come. If Jesus wants to join in on the action, why not let him? For old times sake.

[–] PotatoPie@lemmy.zip 32 points 2 days ago

"God is great, god is great... god is great, My house is gone! Gone!"

Couldn't understand the rest

[–] remon@ani.social 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

But the mainstream media is report it?

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 12 points 2 days ago

Unless it's in Lebanon, Pennsylvania then it's not being shown on US news.

And if it is, it's only on a local TV station for that area.

What are the government/politicians you pay taxes to doing about this?

[–] ironycanal@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 1 day ago

A lot! Where do you think the bombs to do it with come from?

[–] OleFoFa@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago (1 children)

In a just world, this video would've been filmed in Tel Aviv

[–] Allero@lemmy.today 18 points 2 days ago

In a good world, this video wouldn't ever be filmed

[–] BeMoreCareful@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago

Is this what they're hoping to do in Iran as well?

[–] redsand@infosec.pub 9 points 2 days ago

Annexed would be the more technical term. See Jeffrey Epstein's map of "Greater Israel" for details.

[–] WorldsDumbestMan@lemmy.today 1 points 2 days ago

Do millions of people really give up and die, unless they have a boom stick and some pointers from soldiers?

[–] Gonzako@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

Man, hope they didn't double tap the camera man

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

Man that's some serious adrenaline shake right there.
