If you find an injured owl:

Note your exact location so the owl can be released back where it came from. Contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitation specialist to get correct advice and immediate assistance.

Minimize stress for the owl. If you can catch it, toss a towel or sweater over it and get it in a cardboard box or pet carrier. It should have room to be comfortable but not so much it can panic and injure itself. If you can’t catch it, keep people and animals away until help can come.

Do not give food or water! If you feed them the wrong thing or give them water improperly, you can accidentally kill them. It can also cause problems if they require anesthesia once help arrives, complicating procedures and costing valuable time.

If it is a baby owl, and it looks safe and uninjured, leave it be. Time on the ground is part of their growing up. They can fly to some extent and climb trees. If animals or people are nearby, put it up on a branch so it’s safe. If it’s injured, follow the above advice.

From Tiggywinkles Wildlife Hospital

Four little faces, one very big season. We've had a surge of rescued tawny owlets recently, and these four are part of the latest group now in our care at Tiggywinkles.

Tawny owlets naturally leave the nest before they can properly fly - often ending up on the ground while still being fed and protected by their parents nearby. It's a vulnerable stage, and this year we've seen a noticeable increase in calls about young birds in exactly this situation.

These four are growing up together, being carefully monitored, fed, and given the support they need to develop their strength and independence before they eventually return to the wild.

If you ever find a young owl on the ground, please don't assume it's abandoned. In many cases, mum and dad are close by, watching and caring for them even if you can't see them. As always, if you're unsure, the safest step is to contact a wildlife expert before intervening.

Every owlet we raise is given the best possible chance to return to the wild where they belong ❤️🦉

Dishes I’ve left in the sink too long

They take forever to dry out though, owls aren't waterproof.

I'd rather handle these than your dishes, I think 😉

Ah the rare Pudding Cup Owl. Native to the non-dairy section.

I do like a nice pudding cup, but having one of these pop out might be even better!

I would love to see them photoshopped into the squishy dumpling streamers

I'm not hip to these trends... Is this the right thing?

[–] SSETranquility@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

That's the right thing! Yay! Thank you! It's going to be so soft when I squeeze it haha

I'm glad I could successfully fill your request!

And they are indeed soft beyond soft. Owls have different feathers than other birds, they are much less dense and less rigid.

I verified it by giving scritches to this little cutie that will hopefully be my coworker soon!

This is Lint, our education bird in training.
