What is global news?

Something that happened or was uncovered recently anywhere in the world. It doesn't have to have global implications. Just has to be informative in some way.

Post guidelines

Title formatPost title should mirror the news source title. If you don't like the title of article, look for an alternative source instead of editorializing it.
URL formatPost URL should be the original link to the article (even if paywalled) and archived copies left in the body. It allows avoiding duplicate posts when cross-posting.
[Opinion] prefixOpinion (op-ed) articles must use [Opinion] prefix before the title. Opinion articles refer to articles that their publisher doesn't explictly endorse.
Country prefixCountry prefix can be added to the title with a separator (|, :, etc.) if the news is from a local publisher who doesn't clearly mention the country.

Why would they declare independence

They are already a globally recognized independent country

Because Trump finished high school before the Chinese Cultural Revolution, and has been called by one of his college professors the dumbest student be has ever taught.

Add in dementia and I really believe Trump has no idea what Taiwan is apart from a word he recognizes and, with preparation, can barely distinguish from Thailand.

Unfortunately not. More countries recognize Palestine than Taiwan, even though Taiwan more clearly is an actual country.

I think almost all countries recognize Taiwan including the US

Sadly no. There are only 11 countries that have official relations with Taiwan. Almost all other countries either clearly think it's a part of China, or have an ambiguous position towards it. Most western countries are in that last group.

And as comparison:

Cool so how about closing all those bases in Asia because you don’t need them now.

Good news Taiwan wasn't planning that. Seriously current mood is maintaining the defacto independence.

The capitalists have no loyalists to any nation. They will betray and strip the US of all of its natural resources to sell to China if it meant more profit (as they've done to every other nation)

The only thing that dictates capital's actions is its own insatiable demand to expand. To that end, push comes to shove, the US will burn EU to the ground to make 6% more profits YoY.

Era of neoliberalism is over. Trying to apply a neoliberal framework to what's happening in the world right now will lead to nothing but confusion

The separation was encouraged and kept by the Burgers ("unsinkable carrier" as MacArthur said) but the times are changing.

Taiwan says is an 'independent' nation, after Trump's warning

Looking at their post history, OP is what is called a 'ziganwu', right?
