The First Contact theme is gorgeous, it’s definitely the winner to me.

Also, as good as the one used in the series is, I think TNG deserved an original theme. They did such a good job stepping out of they’re predecessor’s shadow, yet they were stuck with a hand me down theme from TMP!

TNG was such an advancement over TOS - it wasn't incremental at all, but a massive progression.

I kind of agree too that if there's one area where TNG didn't advance as much as I'd prefer is the music. I like to fall asleep to the TV series audio at night and I converted the episodes to mp3. The strings are very shrill at times though!

Whenever I watch First Contact after a few years, the opening theme makes me tear up.
