A place to ask Canadians questions and get answers. The most obvious questions would be about Canada, but you can ask about pretty much anything; news, current events, society, etc

I don't intend this as an AMA format, but can entertain some. Rules:

  1. Be civil and act in good faith.
  2. No trolling.

Disclaimer: US citizen here, but I did a quick search for ya and found this site...

https://www.bestproductscanada.com/latest-dumb-phones

Yeah I get it, yeah fuck Amazon and fuck USA, just figured I'd help..

Hm. It seems to link exclusively to amazon...

[–] over_clox@lemmy.world 0 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Damn, sorry I didn't fully chase the links, just attempting to help the cause ☹️

[–] barbatruc@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I appreciate your response and your intention. I suggest to remove the link here because it is generating traffic to amazon, which is exactly what OP is trying to avoid. The whole website looks like an amazon front 😊

Whatever. If that's the case, then go boycott..

Not my problem, I don't live there, I just tried to be helpful.

I'm not Canadian, but visit often.

I'm not sure what the criteria is for "best way" for your situation, but if nothing else you can get these online from Walmart.ca.

Thanks for tje link. Do you know if the phone is unlocked / open to all carriers? I cant seem to find that information on the page but maybe I’m just missing it

[–] partial_accumen@lemmy.world 0 points 1 month ago

I can't speak for the site or the reseller but that phone is listed in the "unlocked phones" category:

Walmart is another American megacorp. No need to avoid one just to shop at another.

I looked at Rexall and Shoppers websites first and couldn't find any mobile phones for sale online. If you don't like the site I posted you could post one for OP yourself from a site that you like.

Not sure what you consider best, but I assume price is a big factor. *Just noticed you wrote online but I'll just keep everything I have here.

You might find a used phone section in your local thrift shop.

Someone is probably selling new and used flip phones on kijiji, ebay, fb marketplace etc.

For buying new, Best Buy is available nationally. I've seen refurbished phone shops but most carry only smartphones. Wireless carriers can let you buy phones outright with no plan but they are overpriced.

Kijiji is probably the best bet imo. Buying used or refurbished from someone local reduces e-waste...

Apparently it's an eBay subsidiary though, so that may be a deal breaker.

Best Buy would be my first non-Bezos look. Maybe Staples.

Kyocera sells some great ones on their site but i needed a courrier service to transfer it from a US postal box to a Canadian mailing address

Your best options are going to be from Japan because they have the biggest dumbphone market in the world, so companies still design new ones. Your best option will be through smaller 3rd party sellers or directly from the manufacturer's site. Many Youtube videos in the dumbphone community can give you better examples. Just be careful about getting a phone that is 4G or 5G because 3G service and under is getting cut everywhere. Also, asian networks use different frequencies than us in the Americas
