why can't the legislators just let kids be kids and let them get hrt or hormone blockers if they want

Well, one of the reasons is that the US never ratified the UN's convention on the rights of the child (because they believe children are the property of the parents). The other is that they want trans people, even children, to not exist.

I'm an adult and they're also not just letting me be me (thanks Florida!), it's not about children. It's never been about children.
