Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

So you only take it when you absolutely have to instead of OD'ing because cough syrup tastes good.

Lots of pill-shaped medicine already does. You're supposed to swallow them immediately, if you don't you often find that they are mixed with bittering agents (or just naturally taste bitter).

Where I live, cough syrup that might actually be dangerous (e.g. the purple drank stuff) is already prescription-only or fully illegal, anyway.

Coatings also prevent insufflation

[–] teft@piefed.social 6 points 4 months ago (1 children)

nah, 10 seconds in your mouth will loosen the coating, then you just wipe the wet coating off on your shirt or something and then you can crush the pill without worrying about the coating.

[–] jeffw@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago

Sure, there are various ways to get the coatings off, although that sounds like a pretty shitty coating. The “better” pills are harder than that to defeat.

With that being said, it’s more about stopping a kid from stealing their parents pills to take to a party than stopping serious addicts from snorting pills. The kids are the ones who will OD

Maybe that's why they made the banana flavor amoxicillin medicine so yummy, so that people would finish their course of antibiotics

Would only work for children. Can't even get the good cold medicine now because people were using Sudafed to make meth and Dimetap to go "robotripping" or make sizzuryp or however the hell it's called.

[–] real_squids@sopuli.xyz 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

dimetap (from what I could find) used DXM, which is exactly what people use for robotripping, but "sizzurp" (lean) in modern times refers to codeine. Funnily enough, og lean was beer mixed with dxm.

It's an entirely different class from opiates though, and if you really need it, robocough apparently still make tablets to avoid the nastiness of syrups.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Oh fuck beer with dxm would taste awful and feel so weird.

I accidentally had a bit too much dxm attempting to be functional enough to work. Wild experience

Would you say it's like having your limbs behave with claw machine logic? lol

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 2 points 4 months ago

Everything is basically in slow motion, and movements feel like moving through water. Besides that, I'd describe it as a heightened state of stupid. Out of body experiences are rare, but pretty wild.

But it's exactly the same trip every time, so it gets old after 20 or so.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

I was only mildly feeling it, but yeah that sounds like what a lot too much would feel like. Definitely interesting feeling, I get why people might reach that point for the novelty. Kinda like a weed body high with a clearish mind from what I remember

A lot of medicinal compounds are alkaloids, which are naturally bitter

[–] FartMaster69@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Let’s be real, nobody is taking recreational drugs for the flavor

[–] MagicShel@lemmy.zip 2 points 4 months ago

Bad flavor does really temper any interest I might have in edibles. Not going to say I never use them, but I'm not tempted to have them just for the fun of it. It's pretty much just a sleep aid.

[–] real_squids@sopuli.xyz 1 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Do syrups count? When mixed with a non-sweetened drink I can see that tasting nice

[–] BreadOven@lemmy.world 5 points 4 months ago (1 children)

That's just dumb. The drug compounds themselves taste bad. A lot of work goes into making them palatable.... especially in children's formulations.

It's the drugs themselves that taste horrible. It's not intentional, it's just how they are.

[–] untorquer@quokk.au 1 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (2 children)

You're not wrong about some drugs but others taste bad simply because they don't consider flavor and you're supposed to just swallow them anyways.

Some Ibuprofen pills taste neutral to pleasant while others are awfully bitter. Ibuprofen itself has a clinical or sterile or saline IV flavor, not offensive.

Unflavored sugar pill can have a pretty awful taste on its own.

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 1 points 4 months ago

The pleasant tasting ibuprofen is sugar coated.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago (1 children)

If unflavored sugar pills taste bad then estradiol tastes weirdly good. I'd just assumed it was the sugar

[–] untorquer@quokk.au 1 points 4 months ago

I'll edit the post slightly but i think it's safe to assume this is the case 🤣

[–] DeathByBigSad@sh.itjust.works 5 points 4 months ago

idk man, these gummy melatonin taste very yummy...

yawn Mommy, I'm feeling kinda sleepy...

(yes that actually happened irl, some woman gave a whole container of gummy meletonin to their kid cuz they were "annoying"... they ended up in the ER... no criminal charges filed... 👀)

[–] Rubanski@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Something just tangentially related but "lozenge" is such a strange word

[–] Jo4ted@lemmy.zip 4 points 4 months ago

Such is the way of the Engrish language

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 2 points 4 months ago

I mean they flavor cough syrup. That being said if you have the money and can find a real apathecary type pharmacy they can do things like mix medicines with candy.

[–] over_clox@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

People would just shoot it up or boof it instead..

[–] rumschlumpel@feddit.org 3 points 4 months ago (1 children)

That kinda requires intention and effort, you wouldn't be doing it because the process is so enjoyable. I definitely remember syrup medicine being really tasty when I was a kid.

[–] over_clox@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago

Okay, you're right, allow me to correct myself...

~~People~~ Addicts would just shoot it up or boof it instead, or smoke it somehow..

[–] schnurrito@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 4 months ago

Not all of it does? The medicine I take most often is ibuprofen pills (when I get headaches), which tastes completely neutral, neither good nor bad.
