Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

The Trump administration is planning a massive propaganda campaign aimed at recruiting thousands of new federal immigration enforcement officers to carry out its mass deportation agenda.

The Washington Post reported on Wednesday that it had obtained internal documents revealing that US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is planning to spend $100 million over the next year on what the agency describes as a “wartime recruitment” drive.

The propaganda blitz will be targeted at highly specific demographics, including “people who have attended UFC fights, listened to patriotic podcasts, or shown an interest in guns and tactical gear,” according to the Post.

Awww, the $50K bonuses aren't pulling in the numbers?

Turns out, normal people just don't like doing evil shit for a stunningly corrupt dictator.

They're trying the Weimar Way, not working as smoothly as they'd hoped.

[–] UnspecificGravity@piefed.social 14 points 4 months ago (1 children)

The Weimar didn't have to deal with an audience that has already seen what happens to Nazis.

[–] AnchoriteMagus@lemmy.world 16 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Not to mention that, when the Nazis overthrew the structures of their government, you could ask any supporter and they'd tell you all about how Hitler loved the German people and was passionate about restoring their national dignity.

It's getting harder and harder for even Trump's supporters to feel like he cares about them or America, let alone any undecideds that they're trying to pull in with this ad campaign.

Yup. America has the hindsight that Germany never had.

[–] teawrecks@sopuli.xyz 4 points 4 months ago

To be fair, America now has the scale and bandwidth of misinformation that the Nazis never had.

Fair point that Trump is a hell of a lot worse at his job than Hitler was.

Hitler was a highly popular leader in Germany while Trump can't get past a 40% approval rating.

I love guns. Fuck ICE

[–] who@feddit.org 25 points 4 months ago

The Trump administration earlier in the year announced plans to entice new ICE recruits by offering them $50,000 sign-up bonuses and assistance with repaying student loans in a bid to double the agency’s head count.

Reminds me of this:

All over Russia, young men have been recruited to go to the front. Their families receive the equivalent of $2,000 to $20,000, or more, depending on the region. In three years, the government spent almost $38 billion, or 1.5 percent of Russia’s GDP, on these payments.

This won't end at deporting immigrants. "First they came for the immigrants..."

The sooner your launch meaningful protests the sooner you can end this.

[–] FahrenheitGhost@lemmy.world 9 points 4 months ago

We protest like hell! In the authorized places at the authorized times without getting too rowdy.

[–] AlecSadler@lemmy.blahaj.zone -5 points 4 months ago (1 children)

People here don't believe in real protest. They think peaceful protest makes a difference, it doesn't. They think waiting until elections and voting makes a difference, it (mostly) doesn't.

Until enough people realize aggression and possibly violence is the answer, nothing will change and they'll sit around with their thumb up their ass wondering why.

[–] tonytins@pawb.social 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

aggression and possibly violence is the answer

And give them what they want? No. MAGA is already fighting amongst themselves as is.

[–] AnchoriteMagus@lemmy.world 5 points 4 months ago

Exactly. Why risk lives escalating to violent resistance when the opposition is doing such a great job tearing themselves apart?

Republicans officials are leaving the party every day, Trump has backed off the National Guard, the Epstein files debacle is only growing in strength, entrenched party seats are flipping every time they're up for election......why interrupt your enemy when they're in the middle of making a mistake?

Let them fight it out. Whoever's left at the end will be weaker and easier to defeat.

"Two weeks." I.e. they always delay this shit because they got nothing.

[–] velindora@lemmy.cafe 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Ahhh, well October is martial law. There’s a pretty obvious ramping up to it.

[–] tonytins@pawb.social 3 points 4 months ago (1 children)

It was very nice of them to tell us in advance.

[–] velindora@lemmy.cafe -1 points 4 months ago

Don’t waste it. Get out.
