Soooo... be aware... Supergirl (2026) is based on this:

No spoilers... but the driving force for Supergirl to get involved is Krypto at risk. I expect there to be a whole page on "doesthedogdie.com".

Krypto was already kidnapped in Superman. He’s been in danger but he’s also a force of nature.

“I didn’t want him eating my parent’s cows.”

I had a feeling James Gunn took a lesson from John Wick. You don't have to make the viewers care about Superman but if Lex kidnaps a super cute dog, everyone is immediately invested.

If they kill krypto I will never trust DC and James Gunn again.

[–] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 6 points 6 months ago (1 children)

You should never have trusted Gunn in the first place.

"Guns don't kill people."

Gunn does.

Like, all the fucking time.

Hoping against hope Krypto survives, because I LOVE him!

Guns don't kill people

☝️ Uh uh ☝️

Gunn kills people

With guns

[–] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

You'll note I put that lie in quotes

Guns use people to kill people when they didn't even mean to, or weren't thinking straight. Guns turn acts of despair or foolishness into suicides and murders.

But Gunn doesn't always use guns. Sometimes they're drowned or impaled or eaten

Goddamn this was a good comic. The secondary protag/narrator had an insufferable problem with grandiloquent verbosity, but the writers seemed to figure it out after around the third issue.

Other than that, it’s awesome. The art is special.

The writer and artist did another book for Dark Horse that was glorious:

I'm sensing a theme. 😉

[–] BrundleFly2077@sh.itjust.works 4 points 6 months ago

Damn. Solid recommend. Thanks for the effort.

I thought the flowery language was because it was a retelling of True Grit

[–] Nusm@peachpie.theatl.social 12 points 6 months ago

Not gonna lie, I kinda want to see it. I’m not a big Superhero movie guy, but I enjoyed Superman. This looks too be as much or maybe even more fun.

[–] Klear@quokk.au 5 points 6 months ago (2 children)

Oooh, is that Lobo? Hell yeah!

[–] FUCKING_CUNO@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Not gonna lie, Lobo is the only reason I care to see this at all. After what they did to the Main Man in Krypton he needs redemption!

[–] Klear@quokk.au 2 points 5 months ago

I just hope Gunn knows what he's doing and is paving the way to the important stuff somewhere down the line - a Section 8 movie.

[–] tatann@lemmy.world 2 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Well it's either Lobo, or Abbath somehow got incorporated in the DCU

[–] Klear@quokk.au 3 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I'm fine with either, really.

[–] brucethemoose@lemmy.world 2 points 5 months ago

Why not both?

[–] MissJinx@lemmy.world 5 points 6 months ago

I'm gona have to wait for the "does the dog die" answer before watching
