This got removed from politics because "Video links are not allowed" apparently? Pretty weird considering that most politicians say stuff on video nowadays and not really writing articles anymore since the invention of the radio pretty much lol. Hope it's a better fit here, this is the kind of stuff people should be aware of.

Josh Turek of Iowa, Democrat, comes out with one of the worst anti-trans ads yet.

Not only is it an anti-sports ad, it proposes a ban on federal funding for gender affirming care. That would hit all medicaid and medicare patients, and any ACA federally-subsidized plans as well.

The answer is to not select either candidate for that position. But I expect to hear screeching over that because "how dare you send a message to politicians, they'll kill more than just you now!"

Erm actually the best way to improve society is to put absolutely no pressure on democrats at all. You're basically voting for a transphobe to win if you don't vote for this transphobe

/s.

The way things are going, in 2040, we're gonna have a democrat on the ballot who wants to jail trans people, and a republican who wants to execute them, and these liberals will argue earnestly in favor of the former. The only way to avoid that eventuality is to signal to the democratic party that trans rights are non-negotiable, and we cannot do that as long as we're voting blue no matter who.

If you have a choice between a transphoboc zionist and a transphoboc zionist, vote third party. Make the effort to get out and vote, and make the effort to vote third party.

Thank you!

This thread has been exhausting. I'm glad at least someone understands what I'm talking about.

What message are you trying to send, though? The only information they get from your non-vote is that the other guy wins, and he is full-on anti-trans. The message, from their vantage point, is "be more anti-trans because that is what wins."

The guy in this ad is literally advocating for policy that will result in the deaths of trans people. Trans people who suddenly lose access to their medications and are not able to go elsewhere to get them are not just going to be fine. This is real measurable direct harm right now. This is a part of trans genocide. Those actions are absolutely intended to harm transgender people in an effort to erase us.

Is there a line for you? Where is that line? Do you think that if he wins he will suddenly stop being anti trans? Do you not think that him winning will also signal to all other democratic candidates running that advocating for trans genocide is actually a great idea and will win them elections?

And if the anti-trans dem wins the message to all dems in the US will be "you can end a 18 year-long losing streak by throwing trans people under the bus"

[–] wagesj45@fedia.io 1 points 5 days ago

I don't think that's what would happen. If democrats win, and their seats become safer, they are pulled left by primary challenges. We observed this with Republicans over the last 3 decades. They never won by pretending to be moderate with the rest of the party deciding to go even more moderate; they learned they could go further right once they were established.

They get the message of statistics from the number of people who voted and left the spot blank. Those ballots will also have data on the people that they did vote for.

[–] pieberry@lemmy.today 3 points 1 week ago

They see the actual number of votes. If voter turnout is on average for the republican candidate but lower than average for the democratic candidate, and accounting for any voter suppression, the DNC would be able to see that their messaging didn't resonate.

Whoever is most likely to keep him out of office.

The answer is "Don't live in Iowa"
