Someone's going to bitch no matter which one you choose, I'd say pick one that is established and seems like it's solid and also not defederated from everyone else.

My info is a little outdated, but it seems like the obvious choice would be Lemmy.world - is that a mistake?

preferably a slightly smaller instance so that not everything is on one instance which defeats the point of federation, theres slrpnk, lemmy.today, piefed, whatever medium sized one that isnt too crazy
