~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.
~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

It's a persistent sense of self and there's no pain or anything, so fine.
What if the original version of you did suffer?
Sucks to be them I guess, but they're not me anymore.
Then that's entirely different, and I would wonder why the technology was developed at all!
I think you missed the point of the thought experiment. How can you have a persistent sense of self with two bodies in remote locations?
They both have their own sense of self. By the time they fork, they're no longer the same individual (but very similar) and it doesn't matter which one gets destroyed: the bad part is the loss of the last copy of a personality, not a copy.
I wrote about this topic! And I don't think my outlook is dark; I just think you're wrong about “continuity” playing any role at all!
