Ah, the traditionally (and mildly classist and racist) assumption that people out west are somehow mentally superior and more educated, while the people in Appalachia are poor dumb hicks.

Funny how culture shapes our perspectives, innit

[–] Jax@sh.itjust.works 0 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Superstition is superstition - you can try to paint this as a class thing but ultimately ghosts aren't fucking real. Seems like one part of the country gets that, the other doesn't.

Where does JD Vance come from, again?

[–] agent_nycto@lemmy.world 0 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Funny you say that when you have an entire state run by Mormons.

Oooo people who tell ghost stories and urban legends are stupid but we're smart with our magic underwear oooo

[–] Jax@sh.itjust.works 1 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I think all religion is superstition - if you actually read what I wrote you'd be able to put that together, but you think I'm being racist because you're missing a few critical brain wrinkles.

[–] agent_nycto@lemmy.world 0 points 5 days ago (1 children)

No, it's just that you're uneducated.

The trope of the religious, ignorant hillbilly is not only based off of classism, but also racism. There was a lot of mixing of races and cultures in Appalachia, because a lot of people were poor and poor isolated people tend to work together, so a lot of those "ignorant and inpure" hill folk started, horror upon horror, interbreeding instead of keeping the races pure. That's where you get groups like the Melungeon.

Of course, certain types of people, usually with white hoods in their closet, didn't like that, (and the fact these folks tended to unionize and fight back) so they spent a good amount of time spreading a lot of bad rumors about dangerous, ignorant, backwards religious people living in Appalachia.

So you, a judgemental and ignorant person on the Internet, fell for a long standing KKK propaganda talking point.

[–] Jax@sh.itjust.works 0 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Incorrect, superstition is always based in woo woo magical thinking/ religion. I'm not interested in whatever bullshit this is, you can keep your 'education' to yourself.

[–] agent_nycto@lemmy.world 0 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I'm saying that you assuming people from Appalachia are superstitious and backwards is part of a racist propaganda campaign that you fell for.

No point in arguing with fools I guess, enjoy your high horse.

[–] Jax@sh.itjust.works 0 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (1 children)

Appalachia is at least 80% white. It is one of the least racially diverse places in the country. Trying to suggest I'm somehow being racist is fucking brain damaged - educate yourself on critical race theory.

Edit: Melungean is a slur by the way, congrats on outing yourself

[–] agent_nycto@lemmy.world 0 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Weird you're telling someone that something is a slur when you don't even know our culture or are even from here.

Get bent ya KKK brainwashed bigot, you're the one thinking people from Appalachia are all ignorant religious idiots.

[–] Jax@sh.itjust.works 0 points 4 days ago (1 children)

when you don't even know our culture or are even from here.

Don't need to, wanna know why?

Ghosts. Aren't. Real. Monsters. Are. Human.

Actually, quick question - what's your skin color?

[–] agent_nycto@lemmy.world 0 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Stories. Shape. Culture. People. Are. Still. Spooked. By. Fiction. You. Bigot.

[–] Jax@sh.itjust.works 0 points 4 days ago (1 children)
[–] agent_nycto@lemmy.world 0 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Whatever dude, make what assumptions or ad homonyms you want, you're still a bigot.

[–] Jax@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Nope, enjoy your superstitions and acting like you're oppressed.

[–] agent_nycto@lemmy.world 0 points 3 days ago (1 children)

You're the idiot who read only the first line of a Wikipedia article and assumed something was a slur.

You're the one who thinks people from specific regions of the US are stupid because you fell for Confederate era propaganda.

You're the one who thinks religious people are stupid.

You're the one making negative assumptions on groups of people over things like race, heritage, religion, and location.

You don't get to say "nope" to being a bigot when you're basically textbook.

[–] Jax@sh.itjust.works 0 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

Superstitious people are stupid, religious people are hit or miss - they're pretty fucking stupid though, by and large.

I can absolutely say nope to all of this because I've heard only white people paint my problems as class struggles. You think you have any room to call me a bigot when you handwave minority issues under the big umbrella of 'class struggle'?

Nope, you're white and part of the people who are desperate to be oppressed - likely because you're a Christian with a victim complex.

'Reclaiming' words doesn't work - that's been proven to be true by the current state of the U.S. . It's historically a slur. Even if it had been reclaimed - you're white. Stop using it.

[–] agent_nycto@lemmy.world 0 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Sorry, I don't take advice from people who paint with brushes that broad, too many assumptions get mixed in.

I genuinely hope that one day you'll have enough experiences that you realize how your actions have been wrong and enough strength to change course.

[–] Jax@sh.itjust.works 0 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yeah I won't be taking advice from white people on my problems or race issues. Thanks but you should keep all of that to yourself.

[–] agent_nycto@lemmy.world 0 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Keeping to yourself? Might be the best advice you gave out that you should take, especially if you're going to be judging people like how you do.

[–] Jax@sh.itjust.works 0 points 2 days ago (1 children)

No I can almost guarantee I'll be calling you out for some other dumb shit you'll say in the future, that I'm sure of.

[–] agent_nycto@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Something dumb like, idk, repeating racist talking points? Judging people from an entire area as stupid? Looking down on other people's beliefs? Picking a flight with someone over mountai esthetics? Accusing someone of using a slur when it's a word you just learned and didn't bother to research? Assuming someone's race and making ad hominem fallacies? Saying class war doesn't exist? Ignoring history?

It'll be an honor to compare my meager works with such an expert, I look forward to your tutelage.

[–] Jax@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yes you've made it very clear you have no idea what you're talking about, and dropping melungeon is 100% a slur. There's nothing to discuss here, but I'm sure I'll see something in the future.

[–] agent_nycto@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

So wait, you think slurs can't be reclaimed. So you think black people can't use the N word? Another wild take there.

[–] Jax@sh.itjust.works -1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yes imagine thinking that slurs are bad! Crazy take. Tell me you've never spoken to black people without telling me.

[–] agent_nycto@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You've... Never heard of black people using the N word as a way of cultural self empowerment before. Fascinating. So why do you think people can't reclaim slurs? How do you feel about LGBT+ people using "queer" and so on?

[–] Jax@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

My girlfriend is black you literal trog - she and her entire family are against using it because 1) it's ugly and 2) it makes the person using it look ignorant.

Exactly the same for words like queer, though in this context you're looking for the F slur - which you 100% should never use, period.

[–] agent_nycto@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

What an interesting take. I'll just assume you're white since you feel like you can tell minorites what to say and do. Turnabout and all that.

It's interesting that someone who's so bigoted is against slurs. Like, the big reason slurs are bad is because it helps start, promote, and continue bigotry, but you've already gotten to the end result, but you're against some of the basics.

Absolutely unhinged but fascinating.

[–] Jax@sh.itjust.works -1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Half white, half native American.

It's interesting that someone who's so bigoted is against slurs.

Yeah, I'm not bigoted - I just don't have social media brain rot. You do, because you clearly haven't put together that reclaiming slurs doesn't do anything other than keep them alive.

[–] agent_nycto@lemmy.world 1 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Right, says the person who hates on people for where they live and all the reasons I mentioned previously that you're a bigot. Like the whole religion thing and all. Making assumptions based on race. Et cetera. You got a laundry list of bigoted stances and I just have been talking with you in the comments. I wonder how much shows IRL.

[–] Jax@sh.itjust.works 0 points 7 hours ago

Sure man, whatever - you're an exhausting person.
