It's a "kolovrat" and it looks like that.

To me this is just an honest and naive mistake. That turned out very bad in the end, but nonetheless.

Oh I think that is very likely but it's odd that this is not what GOG said but the game dev. They don't want to be associated with using AI? They think this sound like an excuse? To me the other explanations sound more like an excuse than this.

Kolovrat is one thing, ss runes were unmistakable and the explanation “that’s our ancestry” made it worse since they’ve used greek symbols instead of the rune, and 2 of them together. Even developers said they had no explanation for that.

That was a nazi dog whistle and gog didn’t even try to distance themselves from nazis, not even saying “nazi bad” after the whole thing.
