I'm kind of amazed they have troops for their little international excursions to Africa.
AfaIk, the mercenaries are sent there for making money, i.e. the russian federation is payed for their presence by the Mali government, that's why they were also targeted by Ukrainian special forces.
They are often paid by just being given gold mines or diamond mines
Empires exhibit the symptoms of their collapse at the periphery first.
Russia's getting bombed pretty regularly deep in its heartland these days, and there's no gasoline anywhere. It's a bit more than just the fringes now.
