Some countries also have cheap in-country flights, unlike Canada. It's cheaper for us to travel Canada to Europe or Mexico than across our own country. This to me is a big problem. I'd like to travel more in my own country.

Hell don't even need highspeed rail if you have a station in everytown and the ability to pass without slowing down. I'd love the ability to one day take a train from say San Bernardino California to Twin falls Idaho.

Also, electric high-speed train reduces travel related carbon emissions by 85% to 90% per passenger-kilometer. Making it a no brainer if we gave a shit.

I'm starting to think the Western coalition empire/hegemon built itself on oil so its never going to let it go. The rest of the world is going to move on while it just clings to it desperately, hoping it will provide all the answers as it once did.
