The same way you know you’re wrong now but are playing dumb anyway. Let’s not pretend this is about having a legitimate, principled worldview.
So you don't have a reason, you just felt your way to a new position?
Nah- I just realized that other people are a lot more perceptive than I assumed they were and could see right through the little act I was putting on. Need some self-respect to get to that point, though.
Eventually, we are what we pretend to be. Don't pretend to be dense.

I'm trying to be charitable to you here. You don't have to tell on yourself if you don't want to.
I doubt that. What made you change your mind on the issue? Did you just not like it anymore? Did it become inconvenient? Could you support it with anything tangible?

You make the mistake of assuming there something to see through. Just because you were being fake, doesn't mean everyone else is. That's just you, projecting into the world around you, to avoid your own shit.
