A place to ask Canadians questions and get answers. The most obvious questions would be about Canada, but you can ask about pretty much anything; news, current events, society, etc

I don't intend this as an AMA format, but can entertain some. Rules:

  1. Be civil and act in good faith.
  2. No trolling.

I was thinking recently that while I shifted my buying habits pretty drastically for things like groceries (to buy local and Canadian if possible), I kept the same habits for books, video games, etc.

Is there somewhere here that would be good for posting things like discussions about Canadian-made art/lit/games? Not so much in a 'buy Canadian' sense as in a 'Talk about Canadian-made culture' kinda way.

If there isn't something like this already I could create a community, though hopefully I wouldn't end up the only person posting there... If I did make one I was thinking it could be for both recent things and nostalgic/retro Cancon. (Growing up, there were cool things like Reboot or 3D animated shorts on YTV that were Canadian.)

If you don't want to start your own community, I would say split it between buyCanadian for stuff you can buy today, retroTechnology and nostalgia to discuss and feature retro Canadian stuff, MapleMusic for music and EhVideos for films old shows or commercials etc.

Then outside of lemmy.ca promote Cancon to comics, art share since those are reasonably popular on Fedi. Then feel free to crosspost to !canada@lemmy.ca because all the Canadian folks here on Lemmy and Piefed tend to visit there.

I thought about posting on BuyCanadian but I was worried they would find it off-topic as that place is more focused on products. (e.g. Not so a place for talking about a Canadian book you read recently.)

That's a good point about splitting it up between the different locations. EhVideos seems like it has the shows/movies/old commercials covered. MapleMusic would work if I wanted to talk about Unleash the Archers or something like that.

I'm not necessarily opposed to creating one, though.
