Why would they throw it in your face? It is not like Lenin upheld fascism or anything.

It does seem like a somewhat suspicious quote to me, so that makes sense.

They were trying to say he did support mussolini/fascism, but even if the quote was real that's still so easy to shoot down that I just didn't bother to fact check it

Got it. It in no way shows support for fascism on Lenin's side.
