The EU cut itself off from Russian oil and gas. Industrial energy costs are already two to three times higher than its competition, and that's even before the new shock with energy supply from the Middle-East being cut off. And their move is to deliberately raise the cost and slow down the rollout of Chinese solar, the cheapest and fastest-deploying form of electricity in the market, on the pretext it's a security threat. You'd think the bigger security threat would be having your industrial base relocate to countries that didn't voluntarily price themselves out of energy.
Has history ever seen a state (or states in the case of the EU) so hell-bent on committing suicide? They're racing towards becoming an economic backwater at this rate. Bonus points for demilitarizing itself as well by funneling all their materiel into Ukraine sans their nukes. Even if parties opposed to this absolutely mad course of total vassalization by the US take power in the EU, Russian gas is not coming back. Not for decades at the very least.
European century of humiliation is basically locked in at this point.
Europe is increasingly turning into one big open air museum. Just forever stuck reminiscing on their past grandeur with a bunch of old shit that tourists come to gawk at and treat like a continent-sized Disneyland, and the sad part is a lot of Europeans want it that way and are proud of this.
If China is the world's industry, the EU is the world's retirement center.
Another great way of putting it.
And the most beautiful and fitting capstone?
The AMOC collapse which almost certain to happen within our lifetimes
lol this is so true. I love talking about medieval Europe.
