Yeah but its not real. No one is going to die if you mess up.

I'm quite sure anyone that undertakes ATC training is made well aware of that. The advantage with these gamers is they're already very advanced in their knowledge and skillset, so they're a lucrative pool of candidates that require much less knowledge and situational training. Similar to how we have a lot of sim racers who very quickly transitioned into successful racing careers, rather than years and years of coming up through different classes.

People who are investing that much time and energy into hyper realistic flight sim LARPs are pretty often going to have higher paying jobs already. At least that's been my experience. I know a few people who do this kind of thing and they are all making 3x as much as a new hire ATC grunt makes.

I mean I'm sure its going to rear some good candidates. But this isn't racing either. This is thousands of people's lives in your hands every day and thats different when its not a sim. Racing, you're only going to wreck yourself and other racers who signed up for it. Here, you could kill entire families with one mistake. Its a different weight entirely. Not to mention all the regulations to beat back insanity. Do racers have to do this? No, becauss their job is fun.
