Hey everyone, there are a few things I want to post about in the next couple of days/weeks. First of which is for a new community I created called Provincial Discussion Canada (https://lemmy.ca/c/ProvincialDiscussionCanada)
I want to explain the purpose of the community and then ask a couple questions.
I created this community because, as a Canadian focused lemmy instance, I think it's important to understand the importance of provincial politics in Canada. I know there are communities dedicated to specific provinces, but this one is designed for any provincial news, discussion, and friendly debate.
In this sense, I hope we can expand beyond federal politics and beyond our own province's politics. Especially with the current government discussing more open cross-provincial trade and co-operation, it feels more important than ever to stay informed. The more informed we are, the more understanding we are. The more united we are.
Questions:
-
Do you think this community could provide value to lemmy.ca? I will take the majority sentiment and shut down the community if there is an overwhelming negative response.
-
Are any Canadians willing to help moderate this subreddit to follow the rules and spirit listed in its sidebar? Those who can keep their personal beliefs separate from their moderation are necessary. Diversity of provinces would be ideal. A portion of mods being French speakers is also a must.
Please let me know your thoughts. Thank you everyone!
Thank you for the feedback! I'm in a bit of a bind here, because while I know some outside of Canada want to read about and learn about Canadian related things, I worry about how Canadian subreddits were often overrun with comments from those not living in Canada. I totally believe that other countries' citizens have valuable things to say, and I appreciate their attention. My intention with this community is to try fostering a place for Canadians primarily. There's value in that for us as a nation, right now especially. Of course, anyone is free to sign up for lemmy.ca and contribute even if they are outside of Canada - if they do that, they are likely quite passionate about learning more, which I think is great!
Edit: all this is to say, this is my rationale for setting the community as local only.
Sadly that would exclude PieFed.ca users, an instance we also manage :(
