Sure she's an Oscar winner. But that was a long time ago. And Oscars are never a guarantee of future work or pay rate.
For nearly a decade now she's only done a few guest spots on series, some supporting roles in small movies, a few voice roles. This show is the biggest thing she done in quite a while.
While Paramount+ may be a 3rd tier streaming service, this is Start Trek, and it's got a real budget behind it.
Exactly, they got Paul Giamatti for Spock's sake. When an actor is at their level they can be choosy about the roles they take on.
He's a special case. He's been a Trekie since he was young. He's wanted to be a Klingon forever. He might be doing this for scale rate. And I'd be surprised if he's on more than a season. If he is, it'll only be a few episodes each.
