Hey yall! I'm stoned af and watching star trek on a weekend, naturally. I lost my place since last weekend in TNG season 3, but I knew that I wasn't far in so I just watched all the intros until I found where I left off. Episode 8 "the price", Troi gets frustrated with the replicator for wanting a "real" chocolate sundae. This raised a question for me, wouldn't food replicators be intelligent enough to simulate the process of "the standard" ingredients being processed into the recipe? Like I thought that was the point of being able to say "Earl grey tea, hot". Like wouldn't she just have to say "betazoid chocolate sundae" or whatever?

EDIT: SECOND QUESTION: Say you have a family recipe cookbook or whatever and the comfort food is in that cookbook, couldn't you just say "simulate the process of making the recipe from this cookbook"?

FWIW if anyone was still wondering if they'd do anything to fix the reported cliffhanger SFA is going to end on, or if there was a chance in hell that Year One would be a thing.

Although Star Trek‘s utopia might seem like a place where galactic powers would be beyond counterintelligence, the franchise has always loved spies. From loving pastiches to their role as a place to navigate shades of gray otherwise untouchable, spy work has long been a backbone of Star Trek storytelling—which means almost every galactic power has at least one spy agency.

In fact, a lot of them have two! Star Trek loves to split the difference between what it sees as honorable spycraft: counterintelligence agencies performing recon work to safeguard their powers’ interests and a second, even more secretive black-ops division that does all the dirty work in a way that can be sequestered and disavowed… depending on the power, of course. Sometimes the dirty work is all they have!

From Section 31 to the Obsidian Order, here’s a brief rundown of the agencies we’ve encountered across 60 years of Trek history so far.

After watching many episodes of many Star Trek series I was considering to make my own fanfic like I did with Half-Life Ampere.

I have a few ideas, but I'm not sure, it is normal to want to make up my own story set in Star Trek universe?

Also, I personally have troubles to try to be the most lore friendly possible and that make me angry while I'm typing down eveything.

I'm a doll hobbyist, and while I was looking for doll parts on AliExpress, I stumbled upon this head. I showed it to my wife, and she quickly recognized the Barbie Mermaid sculpt. This is how I discovered that this head is from the Barbie Star Trek 50th Anniversary doll. Originally, she looks like this:

I think they somehow managed to get unused heads from the factory, because I saw several listings of this head, and some of them even had (badly) handmade hair.

So I decided to buy one. Among doll hobbyists, it's common to buy blank heads to paint them and add hair (the process is called "rooting"). Except in this case, the head is already painted, I just need to root it. I won't be able to replicate the original hairstyle, but it should be fun 🙂

I also found this author on Flickr who purchased and rooted several heads (you can scroll two pages). Originally, I was planning to use black hair, but from the pictures above, white also looks kinda nice 🤔

I also think a dark red color will look great, similar to Poison Ivy from DC. I also considered a dark green head, but couldn't find saran in this color (it's the best material for doll heads). What color would you use?

I really like this episode, not only because it continue the story of M'benga, but also because it has this tradition complexity about Kilingon, and lot of action and drama in every character.

Go time travel, build a warp ship, resist The Borg, and get drunk on tequila when a famous Human hits on you!

The first change.org petition to Renew “Star Trek: Starfleet Academy” for a third season hit 30,000 signatures today, and is over 31,000 at the time of this post.

The one at the post link is the one launched from the UK with the regrettable, unofficial (likely AI) image. But it was up first and has been getting momentum.

There’s another one Renew Star Trek Starfleet Academy for a full season three, with the official key art poster that is about to break 5,000 signatures.

Between these two, Starfleet Academy now has more signatures than did Prodigy when Netflix picked up its second season.

Clearly this is causing consternation among some of those who have opposed the show from the outset. There are now opposing petitions Urge Paramount to shelve Star Trek: Starfleet Academy season two; Keep the Academy series permanently cancelled; and similar. None of these has significant traction.

I get why they couldn't have Odo transforming into a bear all the time, but this would mainly just be another actor, and I'd say his potential feels a bit wasted.

I already find this very exhausting, but in the interest of fairness, here we go.

The sigh from me is wondering why Andy Weir felt it necessary to use a platform like ‘criticaldrinker’ to go out of his way to trash recent Star Trek.

“They didn’t accept my pitch so, you know, fuck ‘em,” doesn’t really sell me on putting my dollars and eyeballs towards the success of his movie — no matter a great performance by Ryan Gosling or great production values.

Rather tells me why all Weir’s heros are lone-guy-saves-all-on-his-own tropes.

Quoting Weir in the interview:

Later, Marsden brought up the divisive Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, which Paramount+ recently confirmed will end after its already-shot second season.

“I think we can probably safely never talk about it again,” Marsden quipped. 

“It’s gone baby!” Weir cheerfully agreed. “It’s all gone.” 

Marsden said his advice to Paramount is to de-canonize everything Star Trek from Enterprise onward.

“Okay, you’re a little more severe than I am,” Weir said. “I’ll give you my opinion and I’m just a consumer. I like Strange New Worlds. I think it’s pretty good. I didn’t hate Enterprise. I thought it was kind of weird. Lower Decks I thought was entertaining and fun. All the others, they can go. And here’s another thing: I pitched a Star Trek show to Paramount and I was in Zoom with the showrunners with all the shows and spent a lot of time talking to [executive producer Alex Kurtzman]. I don’t like a lot of the new Trek. He, as a person, is a really nice guy. But at the same time, those shows are shit. He is a nice guy. But they didn’t accept my pitch so, you know, fuck ’em.”
