As it says "today" not "everyday" I'm supporting the message in the cartoon and I don't think it contradicts your quote.

One strategy I have to outwit that guy is to give him what he wants sometimes so he doesn't fight me.

To offer another quote in return "Every now and then declare peace. It confuses the hell out of your enemies"
