“There is no fair competition with the Chinese automotive industry. They massively subsidized this sector and they are now dumping vehicles around the world. Europe was soft on China. Look at what the outcome has been: 90,000 auto jobs lost last year because they’ve allowed dumped Chinese vehicles into their market,” he said.

There surely is no way to counter Xi's evil economy magic... They're materializing the EVs out of thin air!

idk why China humours these visits when it seems to always just end up with Canada pantomiming disapproval and then leaving

It's probably more trouble than it's worth to stop Carney from showing up.

[–] p0ntyp00l@lemmygrad.ml 0 points 5 months ago

Yeah good point. I can imagine the rag headlines if they told him not to bother showing up:
China REFUSES Lord Carney's EV Industry Inspections Suspiciously

I still find it hilarious how we're now seeing these arguments after decades of these propagandists telling us that state planning is inefficient, it doesn't work, and that it simply cannot compete with market economies.

It is both worse and also cheating apparently

Also none of this rhetoric for Amazon, which is subsidizing its marketplace to destroy competition.

[–] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml 0 points 5 months ago

yeah, that's the real elephant in the room, all the major US tech firms get huge amounts of state subsidies

Our $60B subsidies to protect our national interest.

Their ¥X subsidies to maliciously destroy our precious economy.

Just a snarky aside, as someone who grew up in western Canada it always appeared to me as though a lot of ridings (Canadian for electoral district) in Quebec were won by whichever party promised the biggest subsidies to Bombardier.

Yep, everything China does is malicious, evil, and cheating.

When we do the exact same thing it's good now actually :)

Really goes to show the incredible entitlement westerners feel towards other countries resources.
