Unpopular Opinion
Welcome to the Unpopular Opinion community!
How voting works:
Vote the opposite of the norm.
If you agree that the opinion is unpopular give it an arrow up. If it's something that's widely accepted, give it an arrow down.
Guidelines:
Tag your post, if possible (not required)
- If your post is a "General" unpopular opinion, start the subject with [GENERAL].
- If it is a Lemmy-specific unpopular opinion, start it with [LEMMY].
Rules:
1. NO POLITICS
Politics is everywhere. Let's make this about [general] and [lemmy] - specific topics, and keep politics out of it.
2. Be civil.
Disagreements happen, but that doesn’t provide the right to personally attack others. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Please also refrain from gatekeeping others' opinions.
3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.
Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.
4. Shitposts and memes are allowed but...
Only until they prove to be a problem. They can and will be removed at moderator discretion.
5. No trolling.
This shouldn't need an explanation. If your post or comment is made just to get a rise with no real value, it will be removed. You do this too often, you will get a vacation to touch grass, away from this community for 1 or more days. Repeat offenses will result in a perma-ban.
6. Defend your opinion
This is a bit of a mix of rules 4 and 5 to help foster higher quality posts. You are expected to defend your unpopular opinion in the post body. We don't expect a whole manifesto (please, no manifestos), but you should at least provide some details as to why you hold the position you do.
Instance-wide rules always apply. https://legal.lemmy.world/tos/

This shouldn’t be an unpopular opinion. It’s absurd to consider Kirk’s death (that’s what we’re talking about, right?) as anything other than a net positive. There are zero reasons that you shouldn’t be allowed to exist without constant fear of people like him.
Yeah, yeah I know we’re all constantly told that violence isn’t the answer…by people with a vested interest in keeping us all docile and unthreatening. I don’t care that he’s dead. I don’t care if fascists are afraid for their lives — who knows, maybe it’ll magically teach them to feel empathy for how you must feel all the time. I doubt it, but hope springs eternal.
That depends on what happens next. If the floodgates open and this sort of thing becomes the new norm, it's not just going to be people you or I consider reprehensible who get shot.
Neither do I, and I hate that a dead b-list podcaster is dominating the dialog in this country right now. Id hate it regardless of who the b-list podcaster was or what he believed in.
U think Kirk was a fascist? He was the moderate position. Nick Fuentes an actual fuckin Nazi gained 100k viewers in one stream after the assassination. And calling him a Nazi (which he actually is) is going to be completely useless because everyone in the centre or moderate right have been getting called that for years now. Wolf was cried so many times that now the actual wolves are out nobody is going to take u seriously.
Also picking a physical fight with the us Republican was the worst possible target. 45% of Republican voters own guns 20% of democrat voters own guns, 65% of military members vote Republican. If a civil war does kick off the Republicans will be 2 for 2 when it comes to winning.
Yes, he was a fascist.
No, I don’t care about calling Nick Fuentes anything. If we’re exceptionally lucky, he’ll hit himself in the head hard enough to realize what a useless tool he is. I’d also accept him smacking himself hard enough to put himself into a coma, I’m not picky.
Finally, no one cares about how many guns Republicans have. As people, they seem to be (by and large) useless parasites that make nothing. If they kill the rest of us, it just puts the nail in the coffin for themselves that much faster.
Source?
I think u will start to care when they start using said guns. And 90% of the engineers I've met are right wing so I think the world would continue to function.
Oh no, how will we ever do without 90% of the engineers you’ve anecdotally met.
lol bye.
