Psychological damage can take a big toll on people. It can be a case of being considered a survivor because she's still a functioning human being.
And that psychological toll can also lead to suicide. So "survivor" can be taken literally.
new requirements have dictated that survivors of sexual assault be referenced as survivors instead of victims because they have persevered through trauma alive.
"rape survivor" is generally the preferred nomenclature, rather than "rape victim".

The whole thing is awful, obviously. And it's a bit grim making a rape tier list.
