Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Incorrect, I feel like you're the one not listening, what I am not permitting is fining and imprisoning clergy for not keeping an accurate account of who admitted to what past crimes in confessionals.

If the priests do hear a confession from a dangerous individual then I hope they do pass a tip onto the police and even be willing to testify at the risk of excommunication, but to punish priests for the crime of association seems pointless and would likely decrease the possibility of such a confession in the first place.

If a person knows another person fucked a child and they don’t report it, they should be torn in half by horses, and anyone who sides with those rapists should join them. You’re a sick fuck.

[–] finitebanjo@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

See the thing is you're not held to that standard. You realize that, right? If you know of such a crime and don't report it, you don't face charges. But Catholic Priests are, they're expected to as Mandated Reporters, but Catholic Priests have confessionals which do not record or report who is saying what.

If a catholic priest hears a person confess to fucking a child, they need to exit the booth, identify the person, and call the police. If they don’t they are complicit and should be sent to jail—or killed whatever.

You sound a lot like 1) a priest or 2) a child molester or 3) a republican. Maybe all 3.

[–] finitebanjo@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Okay, but shouldn't you also? If somebody tells you that then you should be held to the same standard, no?

[–] womjunru@lemmy.cafe 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Obviously I would say something.

[–] finitebanjo@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yes but it should also be illegal for you not to say anything, punishable by death via horsepulling. It should be written into law.

And when they pass that law, then the courts won't be able to strike it down for targeting Catholics, win win.

hope? the best you can tell the pedo's victims is that you hope? sorry kid, we hoped the pedo would stop but.... oh well.

IF YOU HAVE IT WITHIN YOUR POWER TO STOP ABUSE AND DO NOT YOU ARE ENABLING IT.

[–] finitebanjo@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yes I hope, just like you hope sociopaths and criminals still go to confession when its mandated law for the priest to rat you out even for faintest hints of a past crime.

IT IS NOT WITHIN OUR POWER TO FORCE PRIESTS TO STOP ABUSE IN THIS CONTEXT. PRIESTS ARE AS LIKELY TO COMPLY NOW AS WITH THE LAW IN PLACE. THIS IS JUST AN EXCUSE TO PROSECUTE CATHOLIC PRIESTS TO FUND POLICE AND PRIVATE PRISONS.

YES, if that crime is RAPING CHILDREN I kinda think they should be ratting out the PEDOPHILES otherwise they're simply giving them time and space to do it again and again.
