Welcome to Witty University. Think of this as your favorite lecture hall, but without the overpriced textbooks and with significantly better banter. We are a community dedicated to the intersection of Open Source Technology, Marketing Strategy, and Artificial Intelligence.

To keep the campus running smoothly, please adhere to the following Syllabus.

🎓 The Syllabus (Community Guidelines)

  1. Stay on Subject We’re here to learn and share. Posts should fall within our three pillars:

Open Source: FOSS news, project showcases, and licensing debates.

Marketing: Growth hacking, brand psychology, and data-driven strategy.

AI: LLM breakthroughs, ethical implications, and practical workflows.

If it doesn’t help us build it, sell it, or automate it, it probably belongs in another community.

  1. Master the "Witty" Mandate We value high-signal content.

No Low-Effort Spam: "Look at this cool AI" with a link and no context will be sent to detention (deleted).

Explain Your Work: If you’re sharing a marketing tactic or a repo, tell us why it matters.

  1. The Open Source Ethos We are a Lemmy community; we breathe open source.

Respect licenses.

Give credit where it’s due.

Whenever possible, prioritize tools that respect user freedom.

  1. Marketing Ethics (No Snake Oil) We love clever marketing, but we hate "get rich quick" schemes and "hustle culture" brain rot.

Self-Promotion: If you built something cool, share it! But don't just drop links and vanish. Engage with the feedback.

Transparency: If a post is a sponsored case study or contains affiliate links, disclose it clearly.

  1. AI Transparency & Ethics Since we discuss AI, we lead by example:

Label AI Content: If a significant portion of your post was generated by an AI, let us know.

No Hallucinations: Fact-check your technical claims. If your "code snippet" doesn't actually compile, you're failing the lab.

  1. Be a Good Lab Partner Intellectual friction is encouraged; personal attacks are not.

Attack the idea, not the person.

Bigotry, harassment, and "trolling for the sake of it" will result in an immediate expulsion.

🏛️ Governance This community is moderated by the "Faculty." Decisions are made to preserve the quality of the signal. If you feel a post was removed unfairly, please reach out via Modmail with a logical argument (we like those).

Social media is here to connect people and ideas. If you have power hungry gatekeepers everywhere and information is heavily filtered, it's no longer a useful source of information or "Social" anything.

While everyone is busy lighting their marketing budget on fire in Mark Zuckerberg’s casino or dancing for a TikTok algorithm that forgets you in 24 hours, they’re completely sleeping on the "slow burn" power of Pinterest. It’s not actually social media; it’s a visual search engine where a single Pin can drive free, organic traffic to your site for years after you post it.

By switching to a business account and treating your titles like SEO, focusing on search intent rather than hashtags, you stop renting fleeting attention and start building a permanent traffic asset. It’s the ultimate long game: while your competitors are fighting for the next 15 minutes of fame, your Pins from three years ago could still be closing sales for you today for $0.

They may say they don't but they absolutely do. Don't underrate a good LlM.txt, and basic backlinks!

Every time you upload a PDF or image to a random “free” compression site, you’re handing over the full file (sometimes including hidden metadata like GPS location, device info, and embedded text) plus your IP address and usage data.

You have no idea how long it’s stored, logged, or reused. Compression doesn’t require a server; it can run entirely in your browser.

Witty University built a simple local HTML tool that compresses PDFs and images 100% offline, nothing gets uploaded: https://university.witty.computer/product/universal-local-compressor-private-pdf-image-optimizer-runs-100-in-your-browser/
