I've heard that a lot of people are going to Lithgow for it, even booking hotels.

Don't know exactly where. My train heading East (towards the city) is still running.

EDIT: Looks like it was only 15 minutes of problems, trains look like they're flowing again. https://anytrip.com.au/region/nsw?selectedStopId=au2%3A215020&departureLimit=25&departureOffset=0

I am thinking:

  • Parramatta station will melt and warp
  • The metro control system will get confused by ice
  • A light rail vehicle will separate at the middle into two independent trains.
  • A stampede of 100 friday workers will pick up and carry a bus over an intersection to get around a traffic collision.
  • A vehicle will be spotted operating on the wrong type of tracks (might be LR/metro/HR/car/sideways-crane).

Sydney Morning Herald article (archived version)

TheTrainGuy4's video on it

There is currently no plan to implement any of these changes.

DD9847 from set D147

2025-09-07 2:30pm

In all it was 5 seats: my row, the row in front of me, and the singular seat. I peeled off the ones in front of my seat. They're scented stickers.

Just thought I'd share this because I found it quite interesting.

Yesterday my northbound CCN stopped at Hawkesbury River for around 10m. I asked the guard what was going on, and he said that there's a freight train coming south, but with a steel plate sticking out of it. So our Mariyung couldn't proceed until they've sorted out the issue.

He said that the signaller told the driver to stop, and the driver relayed this to him. And that we couldn't move until the signaller says it's OK.

The freight train shows up going pretty slow. I forgot what locos it had. It stops with the first loco maybe 20 metres off the south end of the platform. I asked the guard why it stopped and he said that someone's gone to fix the issue.

A few moments later the guard goes into the cab and talks on the radio for a bit, then tells me that we can go now. As we leave I saw a worker walking beside the freight carriages carrying a bent steel plate, maybe 1.5m long and 50cm across.

As we passed the bridge I did notice that the tracks were pretty close together.

old style signals (aussie.zone)

a while ago I noticed that some signals have these old looking lamps instead of the LEDs. all the ones I've seen are "backward", as in the lamps are facing that track's direction of travel, so incoming trains would only see the back of the signal (useless). Maybe TfNSW prioritised upgrading only the signals that are actually used, and left these ones in because they're not necessary.

photo taken at Hornsby on the south end of a platform (forgot which). nice double crossover there in the background.

From September 2025, Sydney Trains will stop providing real-time location data for freight and some other non-passenger train services on the Sydney metropolitan rail network. Sydney Trains will provide a date for when this change will take effect closer to the change being made.

also there was this sign in a V set that said the fine for unnecessarily pushing the fire alarm is $20... there was a "manual brake" (according to its signage) in the space between the doors too, though I didn't get a photo of it

(all images are mine & public domain)

took a V today and wow the walkway between two carriages seem to only be the bare coupler... I wonder what's under the metal plating? the two rods on the sides seem to be semi permanent couplers

new oscar livery!!

first three photos [1] are from u/paintbrushguy on reddit, on june 26, who says it's from an internal source. they also said that option 2 was chosen by sydney trains and will be trialed on H22 and H33. but presumably that's a typo and they meant h22 and h23 because in the fourth photo, we can see that h23 is already painted.

fourth photo [2] of the real oscar is from u/sheeshkysh on reddit, posted july 9, also from an internal source.

blblbslbbbbblb i wanna work at sydney trains
