Someone at my local section of ANPI (National Association of Italian Partisans) posted about the national section's recent joint statement with UCEI (Union of Jewish Italian Communities), so I checked what they're about. Those are pictures I found on their monthly newspaper. (Notice the Ukraine flag in the middle right of the second picture)

Their posts are the usual apologia. Because of their stance, local sections of ANPI protested their presence during our country's day of liberation from fascist occupation (April 25th).

UCEI responded with this statement:

UCEI – Condemnation by Italian Jews: April 25th Marred by Antisemitism. Appeal to Mattarella

The Union of Italian Jewish Communities, together with the Jewish Communities of Milan, Bologna, and Rome, express their firmest and most indignant condemnation of what occurred today during the demonstrations in Milan, Bologna, and Rome: extremely serious and violent episodes have marred a day that represents a pillar of memory and democratic identity for our country—April 25th, the Liberation Day from Nazi-fascism.

In Milan, for the first time, Jewish groups were prevented from marching with their own symbols in the celebrations. Despite lengthy negotiations, also involving law enforcement, they were driven out of the procession and forced to leave under escort. The violent must not be allowed to dictate the rules of access to demonstrations or to disrupt their normal course. It is particularly serious that the memory of the Jewish Brigade was also targeted—a unit composed of Jewish volunteers who fought alongside the Allies for the liberation of Italy from Nazi-fascism: offending the Jewish Brigade means offending the very history of the Italian Liberation.

In Italian squares, openly antisemitic conduct and slogans were recorded ("you're just missed soap bars"). Antisemitism is a manifestation of hatred that strikes Italian citizens and communities deeply rooted in the history of the Republic. Violence erupted in many cities, eventually hitting some demonstrators, who were present with various colors and flags: we are increasingly concerned about the manipulation of April 25th and of History, and about the ideological drifts that fuel disorder and create a climate of hatred.

On behalf of all 21 Italian Jewish communities, the UCEI addresses a pained appeal to the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, so that he may continue to be the guarantor of constitutional values: the freedom to demonstrate must never turn into intimidation or discrimination against other citizens; freedom of speech cannot be suppressed or limited, as occurred under the Fascist dictatorship.

April 25th belongs to all Italians, without exception. We will never allow the Jewish contribution to the Resistance and to the building of the Republic to be forgotten, nor will we allow History to be distorted or constitutional principles to be betrayed.

The joint statement by the national section of ANPI and UCEI:

JOINT COMMUNIQUÉ ANPI - UCEI
July 28, 2026

In consideration of the serious tensions that emerged during the demonstrations of April 25, 2026, the leadership of the Union of Italian Jewish Communities (UCEI) and the National Association of Italian Partisans (ANPI) have recently met with the aim of reopening dialogue between the parties on issues of vital importance for Italian democracy and civil society.

UCEI and ANPI have identified significant points of convergence on these issues:

• the current value of anti-fascism as a foundation of the Italian Constitution;

• the condemnation of any act of violence, wherever it may originate, and of any form of racism and discrimination without distinction of sex, language, religion, political opinions, personal and social conditions (Article 3 of the Constitution);

• the reaffirmed recognition of the role of Jewish fighters in the Resistance and of the Jewish Brigade in the Italian struggle against Nazi-fascism;

• the reaffirmation of the right of the Jewish component to participate safely in the April 25th celebrations, countering divisive choices and behaviors of any nature and from any side;

• the general commitment to lowering the tone of public debate and the willingness to address even issues on which they diverge through direct dialogue;

• the interest in initiating a joint pathway in view of the organization of the next April 25, 2027, and any other memorial anniversary.

This is the response by one of ANPI's local section:

We Reject the Joint ANPI-UCEI Communiqué as Unacceptable

The Section Committee of ANPI Nizza Lingotto, meeting on July 30, 2026, rejects as unacceptable the joint communiqué issued by ANPI Nazionale and UCEI, which accommodates UCEI's request for recognition of a supposed role of the Jewish Brigade in the Italian Resistance and "reconfirms its right to participate safely in the April 25th celebrations."

For us, this communiqué represents a capitulation to UCEI's pressure and an indirect condemnation of the protests the Jewish Brigade faced in Milan. The Jewish Brigade was a military unit that played an insignificant role in the liberation of Italy and whose main purpose was to promote the establishment of a Zionist state in the post-war period within the international community.

Regarding this initiative, we wish to make the following points:

1. The joint communiqué was drafted and published arbitrarily, without prior consultation with the membership base. Furthermore, it makes no mention of Palestine.

2. UCEI is an association that also includes far-right exponents, who are responsible for attacks against ANPI and pro-Palestinian protesters (on April 25, 2024, at Porta San Paolo, and on April 25, 2025, also in Rome).

3. The Jewish Brigade filed a legal complaint against unknown persons regarding the latest April 25th demonstration in Milan, alleging crimes such as private violence, robbery, and incitement to commit a crime, in connection with the protests by all components of the march against the Jewish Brigade itself. This does not seem to us to be an act of "reconciliation."

4. Displaying the Israeli flag at the April 25th celebration was a deliberate provocation against the political sensitivity of the demonstrators, considering that national flags—other than the Italian one—are not permitted at the event. We recall that the Italian Resistance saw the participation, on an individual basis and driven by the impulse to liberate the country from Nazi-fascism, of Jewish, Russian, Waldensian, Yugoslav, and other partisans of various ethnicities and faiths. We see no reason to privilege the official presence of a state that did not yet exist at the time. Every May 8th in Turin, we commemorate the fallen Russian partisans in Piedmont. Should we then carry Russian flags at the April 25th celebrations?

5. The events leading to the genocide of Palestinians in Gaza and their expulsion from the West Bank have led us to carry Palestinian flags at every demonstration, out of solidarity and moral obligation towards the Palestinian Resistance. We have participated in all demonstrations in Turin alongside Palestinian communities and the Coordinamento Torino per Gaza, and we have adopted the Palestinian flag as our own.

For these reasons, in light of the events unfolding in that land, we cannot tolerate dealing with those who neither recognize nor condemn the ongoing genocide carried out by Zionist criminals. We therefore oppose the presence of Zionists in the Liberation Day marches, the squadrist-style raids by UCEI militants, and we reject the provocation inherent in the national office's communiqué. We reaffirm our commitment to the liberation of Palestine from Israeli occupation.

Hundreds of Jewish settlers carried out a coordinated pogrom in the Palestinian village of Sarra in the occupied West Bank on 25 July, burning homes, damaging property, and assaulting residents, following the abduction of dozens of Palestinians by Israeli troops.

According to residents in the village southwest of Nablus, the settler attacks forced several families to flee for safety.

The Palestinian families attempted to defend the village by confronting the attackers, who set at least two homes on fire.

I know that their woes are nothing compared to that of the Palestinians themselves, but I just found it baffling how Hitlerian Germany is being over property damage. Cannot overstate how much I hate Germany. No offence to German people here on this website. But Stalin should not have stopped at Berlin. Complete eradication of the Nazi quantum from Germany would have done a lot of good for the world at large.

In today’s newsletter, we have a report on Jewish leaders’ efforts to use a frightening stabbing attack on Manhattan’s Upper West Side as a political weapon against New York City mayor Zohran Mamdani and the pro-Palestine politics he represents.

Local Jewish leaders lost the battle to keep Mamdani from City Hall last fall and since then have faced one humiliation after another, including a disastrous pro-Israel parade in late May that ended with their political allies needing to apologize for marching with a fascist, and stunning defeats in last month’s Democratic primaries.

Now, they’re trying to use a scary midday attack to hit back at the mayor.

Israeli authorities issued a military order to temporarily seize 5,283 square meters (5.28 dunams) of land in the town of Jaba, north of occupied East Jerusalem, in an attempt to impose new facts on the ground, the Jerusalem Governorate said on Tuesday, Anadolu reports.

In a statement, the governorate said the order covers a 725-meter-long plot in the areas of Al-Muntar, Ras al-Marj and Shaab al-Ghuzoul in Jaba, and will remain in effect until Dec. 31, 2028.

It said the Israeli order was part of a plan to build a settlement road extending from Route 60 near the Jaba checkpoint to the separation wall near the illegal Neve Yaakov settlement.

“Israeli seizure orders are used to impose new facts on the ground by taking control of Palestinian land and expanding road networks linked to settlements,” the governorate said.

“The settlement road projects are tied to de facto annexation plans and efforts to connect illegal settlements with occupied Jerusalem at the expense of Palestinian land,” it added.

Palestinian authorities say Israel continues to expand illegal settlements and build bypass roads in the West Bank and East Jerusalem to consolidate control over Palestinian land and undermine the possibility of a geographically contiguous Palestinian state.

Under international law, […] settlements in the occupied Palestinian territory are illegal, while the UN says settlement activity violates international law and remains an obstacle to peace.

About 750,000 occupiers live in 141 illegal settlements and 224 outposts across the occupied West Bank, including occupied East Jerusalem, where they carry out attacks aimed at forcibly displacing Palestinians.

Detroit’s Democratic lawmaker Rashida Tlaib has called for the resignation of Neil Barofsky, the federal monitor tasked with overseeing the United Autoworkers, following reports of a call in which Barofsky hammered UAW President Shawn Fain in 2024 over the union’s call for a ceasefire in Gaza.

Drop Site obtained and authenticated a recording of the conversation, which undercuts previous claims by Barofsky about his interactions with Fain. During a board meeting around the same time, Barofsky claimed, according to previously leaked minutes, that he had never said that the UAW statement crossed a line into antisemitism, but in the call he repeatedly made that claim. Barofsky also claimed he didn’t share his own opinion with Fain on the call, but in fact Barofsky does so at length.
