Progressive stoner metal from NYC. Debut LP released in 2015, Linked is the opening track, a slow sludgy intro to speed up with a bit of a dip into hardcore and more fun to be had towards the end.

Atmospheric post-metal/sludge in a beautiful way. Kinda flowery if that makes sense, but a nice tune to kinda zone out to. Not heavy enough to be on Metal Archives, but once again - fuck em.

First EP this group from Sweden released, in 2018. Heavy psych/stoner doom metal with female vocals. Kinda hypnotic, and with a great bass sound. Also very playful, if that makes any sense.

This EP is on the shorter side, at around 28 minutes, if you decide to go on past the track I'm linking.

Heavy as fuck stoner/doom/sludge metal from Japan. This is the opener to their latest album - their seventh(?). Quite a long career for a band from a place of origin whose typically known for the "visual kei" and "burning spirits" movements.

Very impressive. A shortie but a goodie almost 40 minutes. Full, hard, noisy, angry.

They've got that, those Thou screams, they sound a bit like Primitive Man, which makes sense given that I got Indian from the similar artists tab. They also remind me a tiny bit of Celeste, must be the hardcore elements. They've got a sound which seems to just, raise doom, in the literal sense of the word. Like imagine someone screaming from the top of their lungs atop a high vantage point, and the earth having been split and spewing all kinds of sounds and fire. As all of this is happening, the vocalist seems to open their arms wide open, and moving them up and up and up, as to accept and invite more doom to the world.

Hah, the first bit when the vocals hit I was like "Finally! Some good black metal adjacent vocals!"

On the end of "Rhetoric of No" track the noise at the end reminds me of a rattlesnake.

Favorite Tracks:

  • Rape
  • The Impetus Bleeds
  • Rhetoric of No

EDIT: Perhaps the only thing that is a bit sad about this album, is that it's short, and I'm already rewinding it.

Hauntingly beautiful stoner/doom metal from Canada, album released in 2023. Linking the third track, though the one prior kicks ass too. But I feel this one slightly edges it out.

From Finland we have this latest release of theirs in the stoner/doom genre. Gonna link the first track. Got a great fuzzy groove and an aggressive raspy Finnish voice, which might take some getting used to, but once it does, there are tracks they've released that match the same aggression.

More stoner/sludge metal of a somewhat psychedelic variety with a female guest vocalist today. This one from Sweden, performed in Swedish. Their second LP released in 2015 and kicks ass. Linked is the fifth track. Awesome riffing throughout the album and a generally laid-back vocal performance really help to make this particular album stand apart imo. The beautiful pastel album art is different as well!

Greek stoner doom metal, second album released in 2020 with favorable acclaim. Sounding great with the higher pitched voice and heavy as fuck instruments, a bit like Sleep or Electric Wizard. Linked is the first song, though the rest of the album is great - it's fairly short for a doom LP xD.

Been going through a bunch of post-metal recently and my recommended algorithm is a bit all over the place at the moment, so actual tracks I want to keep are few and far between currently.

However, this one here tickles my fancy in a weird way. The band doesn't stick to just one genre on this album and it's not exactly cohesive or well-blended, but I do like the songwriting on individual parts to songs. Not this one that's linked here though, It blends pretty will imo and I feel it fits perfectly in this community, despite being instrumental only.

These guys are from Belgium, and this is from their latest album released in July 2025.

Uk's crust punk/sludge metal band with clear intent to adapt the mythology of the novel called "Watership Down" into this kind of extreme music. This is from their first of three albums released in 2006. Linked is probably their namesake song as you can hear it mentioned in the lyrics.

With this artist being punk-related here, there might be some aspects that aren't for everyone, like for myself, it's the voice - it took me a few spins for me to not mind it so much. But I've relented to say it matches the music well enough, which is crushing and pessimistic, yet melodic in a way; even epic when it speeds up occasionally. A great way to spend an afternoon is to go through the whole trilogy of albums.

Stoner metal from the UK, latest album of theirs released in 2024. the opener is linked today; has a beautiful somber feeling to it, but not depressive.

Quite underrated. I found them when I searched for themes of "Pain" and for a genre of "Sludge".

It's only available on Bandcamp. I plan to upload this on youtube for my Favorites 2025 playlist. The playlist starts as some random mix of songs, then takes a detour on Progressive, Black, Doom, and now Sludge. It's been one hell of a year, and more specifically, one hell of a three months.

Stoner/doom band with psychedelic elements from Austin, Texas, USA released this debut in 2014. Fuzzy haze and slightly trippy atmosphere kinda hearkens to the desert of where they sorta come from - or rather - are next to lol. Excellent beat and sound from this trio, might be worth looking into their other releases, tho they seem to play more closely to stoner rock on those.

Is Boris. I have no idea what they play, they change genres every second. Anyway, that description seemed right.

Boris has these incredible drumming sections.

Well, that intro riff? I wish they played it more, it wouldn't get tedious at all, since the drumming makes it fresh.

I would recommend the entire album. My favorites are Ganbouki and Hama.

Hailing from NYC, we have this unique mixture of alternative metal and doom/sludge metal. Stands out for me as the multilayered voice might be something you hear on radio, but the instruments are all heavy as fuck and played very well. Debut released in June of this year, and I feel like this group might be something to follow.

Doom/sludge metal from UK, linked is the first track of their second album of theirs released in 2016. Mammoth Wizard Weed Bastard officially shortened their name to MWWB in 2020. Album's name is in Welsh and translates to "The False Prophet."

Crushing under massive fuzzy stumpy hooves, while sang at by the voice of a flighty angel. Also has some synth fuckery going on while you're tripping, just for the extra WTF factor.

From Belgium, we have this atmospheric sludge/post-metal band releasing their second album in 2011. They changed their name, after their fourth album, to Stake in 2018 and have released two more albums since, still in the same style.

Linked is the opening track with a rather humorous set of lyrics, but the music itself is definitely sludgy post metal; has a nice crunchin beat to bob your head with and tell everyone else to suck your fucking cock lmao.

Quite the record. But we're talking about the track, you can find the album "Works Will Come Undone" on youtube.

And well, it is something. "dawn... into day... into dusk... into dark... into dawn... into day... after day." there's of course the Cello, which adds a unique flavor to their sound.

Progressive folk/doom metal from Switzerland. This single released in 2021, seems to be the latest release of anything as of right now. Reminding me a lot of a more doom-y, more folk-y Nightwish with the gothic and theatrical elements, but a lot less power metal. A small handful of the members of this group, including the vocalist, were in fellow Swiss melodic death/folk metal band Eluveitie, if anyone has any sort of familiarity with them. Music is dark and contemplative, a nice selection of other instruments that one would use with folk music, like a hurdy-gurdy lol. I feel it comes together nicely.

Tidal, RateYourMusic, not "metal enough" for Encyclopaedia Metallum, music video from Youtube

Edinburgh, Scotland's epic doom/heavy metal band. Second album of theirs released in 2020. Linked is the opening track, also the title track. Probably the fastest track I'll ever link here lol - definitely kicks your ass in the percussion and instrumentation. Got some powerful vocals from Laura Donnelly, and they definitely standout among other artists in the genre. My favorite of theirs is track one from their 2025 album III, Suffer in Life.

I CANNOT get enough of Pentagram recently. The past few months they have been one of my top artists. Even bought Relentless on vinyl.

This post is a tad unusual from me, as it would not normally be my style. But I find this song so goddamn GORGEOUS. The beautiful main riff to this song has been stuck in my head all day, without showing any signs of leaving. I could've also posted this in !heavymetal@lemmy.world or even in a hard rock community (if that even exists? Lmk...) but I feel it has enough doom in it. It is one of Pentagram's really old songs from way back in the 70s, so it totally carries that vibe.

So yeah. Not sure why I picked this over the million other amazing Pentagram songs, especially those with either more doom influence or that are more my style. Well... Probably because it's stuck in my head ( >д<) . Ahh well, enjoy regardless. 🤘

Beautiful atmospheric sludge/post metal coming from London, released this debut in 2009 and I'm surprised it took me this long to discover. It scratches a nice itch in absence of Elder releases. Great songwriting and structure throughout the whole album, which is mostly instrumental - though the track I link has these nice vocals that fit the music perfectly, and they're fairly unique but at the same time satisfies that Elder need, like I said before this long run-on sentence. xD

Atmospheric stoner/sludge metal from Savannah, Georgia, USA - and close friends with Baroness, so they share a lot of DNA with their ideas and sounds. Vocalist here, Laura Pleasants, also provided vocals for that one upload I did a few months ago called Slower, so for fans of that, it might feel a little familiar!

Beautiful sound to completely get lost in - a hazy mist.
