A place to discuss comic books of all types, from old to new, Big 2 to indie, and everything in between.

Floppies, graphic novels, compilations, omnibusses (omnibusi?) are all fair game.

There is only one rule:*

Comic Books is a no judgement zone.

You can talk all you want about how Rob Liefeld is trash, Bob Kane is an asshole, or Frank Miller and Dave Sim’s politics have made them toxic, that’s all good.

If, however, another user is LEGITIMATELY a fan of something you don’t like, that does NOT make them a lesser person. Attack the art for being bad, not the person for being a fan of bad art.

* I lied. There are TWO rules... No piracy. Cover shots? That's good. Interior pages, in moderation? Sure. Full books? Links to pirate sites? That's how we get things shut down. :(

I'm not saying it's been a problem, because it hasn't been.

My list for this week! Check and see what's good!

Beyond Megalith #0 - Always good to see stuff from Bad Idea!

Bizarro Year None #1 (Of 4) - Kevin Smith am never writing death of Bizarro.

Cruel Universe 2 #9 (Of 12) - The EC legend continues!

Ghost Machine The Official Guidebook #1 (Of 5) - So if you haven't been following Ghost Machine, it's a sub-imprint at Image of multiple related titles. The two best of which, I find, are Geiger and Redcoat, but there are more! This appears to be a mini explaining the GM universe.

JSA #18 - Always a JSA fan!

Minor Threats The Last Devil Left Alive #4 - nearing the end of the latest Minor Threats mini!

Sacrificers #20 - Man, I am BEHIND!

Wonder Man #1 (Of 5) - Following the success of the Disney+ show, Wonder Man gets his own book again!

X-Men #28

I used to own a comic shop, since I stopped I have been pretty OOTL regarding what is out there. But there are a few characters I like to keep up with. I check out the weekly lists here, but that does not always paint a complete picture, plus that is new stuff would like to check up on what I have missed since 2019.

Sam Keith changed my life. I had given up on comics. Everything was looking the same. The stories were the same.

A friend came into art class one day and plopped down a copy of Darker Image and said "Look at this." A preposterously proportioned human male and a cartoonish woman with a bit of a belly that was obviously inspired by Frank Frazetta. The variations on 9 panels were completely shattered by bizarre organic and inorganic framings.

It was radically different from anything else. Then I started reading it. I had no idea what was going on. And that is a wonderful feeling.

In the Maxx comic you would read the issue and just have to sit back for a bit and figure out what you just read. The letters column was like reading dissertations from psychology majors. The whole Sam Keith package was multiple layers from art, story telling, and psychology all wrapped up in a very not easy to open package.

Sam Keith changed me. He changed the comics industry. He will be missed.

Every character who wears one exclaims that it's an oh so bold and embarrassing design. To me they seem like ordinary superhero costumes. It's not even like the armored underwear costumes that some characters wear. Anyone with more info on this?

New Comics Week of 3/18! (leagueofcomicgeeks.com)

Been away for a bit and I find out, in my absence, our usual source of new comics kinda fell down.

Not sure what's going on, but it is run by one guy and life does happen (ask me how I know this!)

So subbing in League of Comic Geeks for now to keep the conversation going!

What was I buying again? Feels like a year but it's only been 2 months:

Ultimates #22 - Almost the end of the Ultimate line.

X-Men #27 - Hasn't really recovered from the latest crossover sillyness.

Lobo #1 - Written by Skotty Young which is just the right kind of unhinged for Lobo.

Wonder Woman #31 - Always a great read!

Marc Spector: Moon Knight #2 - Rebooted AGAIN!

Geiger #22 - Continuing the Geiger/Northlander soon to be Redcoat team up!

Mortal Thor #8 - The human side of Thor has been compelling.

Catacomb of Torment #9 - The new era of EC comtinues!

D'orc #1 - No idea, but the concept looks hilarious! Half Dwarf, Half Orc.

Future Is ****** #11 - I'm amazed that they are on track for their 60 issue plan!

Soldier-turned-superhuman assassin for hire Slade Wilson has made hundreds of enemies in his day, and now one of them is taking his world apart piece by piece.

10

Kate Kane has lived in the shadow of a prophecy and the machinations of a religion devoted to the end of all things. How do you fight the devil when the devil is real? And how do you win?

11

It’s a guts-soaked path from DC K.O. to the end of the universe, where Lobo is going to scratch his name and number in the Source Wall with a cool knife.

A tasty combo of food culture and superheroic stories.

What are you getting this week?

For me, Absolute Batman #18, and maybe X-Men United #1. Not sure, though, I've been losing interest in the X-Men line lately. Oh, and if they still have a copy of Poison Ivy #42 from last week, I'll pick that up. That looked interesting.

16

Gamora, Captain Marvel, Amadeus Cho, Darkhawk, Cosmic Ghost Rider! Five unlikely operatives recruited by Maximus of the Inhumans.

“Build a school,” Charles Xavier told them, and the X-Men have done so — but in a manner nobody saw coming!

The GoCollect site hasn't had this list on their blog for a couple weeks now -- looks like Chuck's new releases list is now on its own separate site at comiclist.info. He also doesn't have them all on one page, so here are the links for each publisher:

What are you pulling this week?

It’s the beginning of a brave new era of Poison Ivy as Pamela Isley ascends to the role of mayor of Gotham City.

20

DEATH AWAITS DANI MOONSTAR!

Inhumans aren’t the typical A-list characters that people get pumped about, but I was stoked to finally complete this trifecta in my personal collection. They’re definitely on the well-loved side but I’m enjoying having them.

For 50 years, Marvel Comics has dared to ask What If?, putting bold twists on major Marvel moments and opening the floodgates to the multiverse!

Had the surgery 2/19 to remove the entire sigmoid colon and all the related lymph nodes.

Was in recovery 2/19 to 2/23 and released to go home!

The biopsy results came in late today and confirmed 0/12 lymph nodes were malignant. That's it! It's clean! No stage 3, no chemo required!

Follow up with the surgeon on 4/1 to talk about where we go from here, my guess is colonoscopies 2x a year for life now since it went from 0 to stage 2 in 6 months.

March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month, wear blue and get checked!

#✅UR:

Not sure when I'll be back modding, I still feel like someone slammed me in the gut with a baseball bat. Cricket bat for our international folks! Maybe another 2-3 weeks.

I still lurk and comment occasionally, just as my health allows!

Edit Bonus - Since my wife had her own medical event this year involving a massive infection, spinal intrusion and below knee amputation, we already hit the out of pocket maximum on our insurance for the year.

Sooo...

Get insurance guys, no, seriously, get insurance.
