So, I have a number of different versions of the Epyx Fast Load cartridge images, and a hardware TFW8b "Fast Load Reloaded" cartridge. Loading any of these cart files or plugging in the cartridge results in a black screen. Overlay works, but when I close it the screen is black.

Is there a version of Fast Load that works with the C64U?

CommoServe? (programming.dev)

I've searched CommoServe for a bunch of things, and have always come up empty. (Except for the Jupiter Lander Fractured thing.)

Are there actually files there? Is it possible to browse the archive via the Web somewhere?

I already bought gifts for my C64 because of Saint Nicholas Day, which we celebrate on December 6th in my country. The shopping list included:

  • Retroscaler 2x ~45 $
  • S Video/Chinc AV cable ~5,50 $
  • Joystick (second-hand but high quality) ~ 20,5 $
  • SD2IEC with Ogryzek Cartridge (for fast loading) (second-hand also) ~ 33 $

I am adding the purchase of parts for DIY Pi1541 project to my wish list for the future. I want to learn something about electronics.

I didn't have much experience with Commodore 64 games. What can you recommend?

There are three retro games that I truly love - SuperFrog, Lotus 2, and Cannon Fodder. All are for Amiga computer but for right now I'm looking for something cool that I can play on my C64 :)

Hi, I have Commodore 64 computer in my house but I don't know what can I do with it... Also I need to find a way to connect it to my monitor or buy CRT Monitor.

I'm completely from another generation than you guys (I'm teenager) so I didn't have too much contact with this computer. I'm really interested about computers so this is reason why it caught my eye. I think the most basic purpose of this computer is playing games, I mean that this is what people think when they hear about it.

I love retro games but I'm bored with games for right now and instead I'm focused on learning new stuff and improving my skills. And if I would like to play games I would just run them on emulator.

I don't have any hardware for it expect broken joystick, cassette player and blackbox cartridge (I buyed it few years ago and I don't remember why)

My question is how can I learn something about computers/electronic stuff with this Commodore 64? What's best way to display video from it? Why you love this computer so much? And what this computer can do, what emulator can't?

P.T. is on C64 now!

P.T. (Playable Teaser) is one of the most discussed games ever made. It was a 2014 interactive teaser for the video game Silent Hills, a cancelled instalment in the Silent Hill series.

You have woken up in room that leads to a strange corridor, which  continuously loops and changes itself. Can you piece together the dark past of this place?

The C64 version of P.T. was heavily inspired by the Gameboy Colour version. It is compatible with PAL (recommended) and NTSC machines.

We spoke with Boulder Dash creator Peter Liepa about his classic action-/puzzle game.

No software emulation, this 'faithful recreation of the original motherboard' runs on an AMD Artix 7 FPGA.

This is basically a Commodore version of the ZX Spectrum Next!

Keeping with all the hype of the ex-world champion, Gremlin bought the rights to produce a game based on the famous British Formula One driver, with Nigel Mansell's World Championship. Originally, it seemed that by 1992 - Gremlin felt it was time to move on from the 8-bit platforms, and their new licence was just to be a 16-bit release. However, magazines of the time would help to make Gremlin reconsider, with Commodore Format pushing their readers to fill in a small slip to ask for the game to be converted.

The interview is with the podcast Floppy Days. Compute's Gazette was the king of the type-in program magazines, an entire industry that's gone now. James Nagle swooped in and grabbed the trademark when it expired, and is planning a general retro-computing magazine. He plans on reviving the Gazette, but not Compute itself.

This was in the 1980s video rental store inside the theme park. It was a great nostalgic recreation of a time gone by, and Commodore 64 is rightfully represented!

Also known as the "organ piece that the TRUE C64 ENTHUSISTS will ask for their funeral service".

...I'm not saying it's going to happen NOW to you PERSONALLY. But I do think you should mention this to your next of kin. Memento mori.

I am not affiliated with this title in any way. I am just sharing it out of appreciation for fine work and in the hope that someone here may be interested.

If you have a vintage joystick that you used to use on your original C64 and would like to game with it on VICE or TheC64Mini, check this out! Not too long ago, I bought myself the D-SUB9 USB joystick adapter, from Retronic Design (based here, in Canada).

With this device, I can play my favorite C64 games on my PC (using VICE) or my TheC64Mini using my favorite joystick, the Wico TheBOSS.

I'm really glad it works so well. Some games I just can't play very well without using TheBOSS… keyboard keys and TheC64Joystick are just not good enough. The game, “Aliens The Video Game” is one of them. I just can't get by the first stage (the flying down to the planet surface) with using a keyboard on VICE; and I'm not much better with TheC64Joystick. So, again, it was a very satisfying moment for me this afternoon when I made it through that stage on the first try, with TheBOSS. In the words of George Costanza, “I'm back, BABY!”

I go into a bit further detail about it on my blog post here: https://www.my64.in.nf/doku.php?id=blog%3A2024-03-15

Greetings, all! My first post on Lemmy! 😀

For anyone new to the C64 scene, or returning to their Commodore roots, there may come a time when you might want to give text adventure games a try. If you do, here are a couple recommendations that I've enjoyed more recently.

For the noobie, Castle Quest, by Ricky Derocher, is a short and simple text adventure game, perfect for the beginner. The commands used by the text parser are uncomplicated and puzzles are relatively straight-forward.

Link to the itch.io page: https://rickyderocher.itch.io/castle-quest-commodore-64.

Once you get the hang of it, an enjoyable (and not too complicated) graphic text adventure you may want to try out is, The Curse of Rabenstein, by Stefan Vogt. Stefan has a great way of telling a story that draws you right in. Link to the itch.io page: https://8bitgames.itch.io/rabenstein.

Game on, Adventurer!
