They're legit trying to lock down general purpose computing devices. Even though they term this as 'child protection', this can be easily abused to lock everyone out of system modification. The heads of the corporations that sponsor this and legislators who took their money should be dragged out of their offices and paraded in a perp walk.

This isn't a technical requirement. It's a legal requirement based on either incomplete or vested understanding of the problem. Such requirements must not only be rejected, the legislators who propose those should be investigated for graft and public shunned and shamed. Traitors of humanity!

Except if you think about it, this is possible with smartphones too. They have cameras in the front and the back. The phone just has to be vertical. But docks and holders take care of that. The only thing left is the camera to be recording. Sure there are permission systems. But they're all software. No physical switches or indicators for safety. You won't know even if it's recording. And if it's recording, it will uploading it just as easily. We're addicted to a spy device.

I know that Hitler was a bad guy. Really! But why detest everything he coopted? Many have a very different meaning in reality. 'Swastika' is Sanskrit for a symbol of peace and wellness. Similarly, the Aryans were an ancient race, whose lineage still exists in the world today among a huge population (I'm talking about genealogy, not the eugenics concept). I'm one of them. But we rarely discuss that - not because of the Nazi link, but because it hardly makes any difference today. (However, our language is still very similar to the Aryan language.) What we actually like is to explore other languages, cultures and traditions and absorb their best - something I hope we can all agree isn't very Nazi-like.

Can somebody hack the Epstein files too? Be sure to redact the parts that the Congress asked DoJ to, before publishing it.

Open devices will be way costlier too. That's the price of letting these demagogues get away with such abuses. Should have rubbed it in their faces.

Try taking an old git version and applying only the patches you need.

You seem to be pretty invested in Gnome. But your slander against System76 and COSMIC desktop has no merit. Cosmic is still a work in progress and some friction is expected. But there is no problem in their methodology. They are also doing something that's very much a norm in the FOSS world - create something new and share it, if they don't like what's around. And so far they're receiving good reviews despite how immature the software is.

Gnome on the other hand has burnt its users so many times that this isn't even the first desktop to be born out of disagreements with them. And this is also not the first time they have slandered their competition. They absolutely don't respect anyone but themselves.

Why not Fortran 90 or Fortran 2023?

It's not really that baffling. What was done to the Jews by the Nazis is utterly indefensible. And some of the attitude that led to it still persists in society. The Zionists used that to guilt trip the world into banning public criticisms against Jews and Israel - legitimate or otherwise. They use it to silence even the ultraconservative Jewish sects and actual Holocaust survivors who speak up against the transgressions within their community. This was particularly effective in Germany as they were coming to terms with what they had done.

This is why we should never encourage victimhood narratives by anyone. They're very often trying to emulate the atrocities they describe. Hate speech should be condemned and called out - but uniformly without discrimination.
