On topic, I don't know how to feel because I value academic freedom but at the same time I just ask Why? Didn't anyone think about it beforehand? Reading their apology was joyful. Can't imagine how they felt.

Slightly offtopic, I studied this particular field and I hate nothing more than these wordings, sentence structures and the passive voice so often used in the environmental science & governance literature. This style of text is mind-numbing to read.
Researchers, too, can and should use clear language. Ugh.
