Most coworkers made working there a breeze but the manager is somebody who will throw me under the bus if she has to and loves playing favorites.

I sometimes talk and eat together with those coworkers I enjoy and is a breeze, I sometimes miss working with them, they made the job easier.

But the manager is a person I don’t trust. So what does a smart person do in a situation like this?

I work as a courier in 2 shifts: morning and afternoon.

If I have an afternoon shift I can do some jogging, stretching and my yoga routine before working, something that I notice makes me feel better. If I have a morning shift, I usually eat at the job, meaning afterwards I won't feel motivated to do any of my routines (full up), but on these days I feel strange, like something's missing.

I'm not the kind of person that eats small portions, I eat till full up.

I don't know what a solution looks like

I'm old fashioned and learn the old way: you print what you need to study, get a pen and a highlighter, have a seat next to a table and get to it.

My current position offers me ample downtime but I'm not allowed to carry a portfolio with my study materials around and I don't like folding my A size papers (ANSI standard) because I end up ruining them that way.

A smartphone's screen is not very big and highlighting text with it is a nightmare. This is medicine I'm studying, meaning lots of graphics to locate veins, nerves...

I don't find it practical but maybe you do? If so, any tips?

I could create an epub or pdf file from the materials and use LibreraFD to access them. I don't know.

I’ve always been very private oriented: I started using linux-debian 20 years ago after discarding windows and apple. I rarely buy online but when I did, to be as private as possible I used to create an account using fake data by the e commerce platform I wanted, get my order and then ignore the account until I wanted yo use it again. Most of the times I used a vpn.

This worked till the platform banned me.

Now I’m thinking about investing in ETFs to build some capital for my retirement and platforms recommended to me like trade republic or scalable capital seem to be exclusively smartphone reliant. I wouldn’t use fake data to create accounts here, nor would it be possible (bank data involved).

The trouble with smartphones: I don’t want to be that guy changing smartphones every 2 or even 4 or 8 years. Spending $200 to $800 for a phone for such a short period of time is just a dumb idea, but I don’t know if it would be safe to use my 2018 android 8 smartphone to invest in ETFs. This 2018 model is my first smartphone. It’s a second hand one somebody gave me because he thought I really needed it. I would have never bought a new smartphone on my own. However, unsupported models are not secure for investing and this model stopped being supported years ago.

Another trouble I see: to use scalable capital or trade republic I’d have to download their app in my smartphone. Google is a company I don’t trust. Each time I needed to use something from their app database I got it using aurora, but I’m afraid scalable capital will automatically ban me if I download their app from f-droid instead of doing it officially using google. Using google to create an account would mean giving them my real data, because otherwise I risk being labeled a scammer. Correct me if wrong.

I’d love to invest using only a browser on a desktop.

my new job involves taking labor samples from point a to point b in a huge university campus involving several buildings using a cart. There are lots of downtime and many of my talkative future coworkers sip coffee and smoke several times a day, which I find boring, unhealthy and a waste of time. They're not interested in learning something new.

I'm studying to be a Physician Associate, so my job is not completely unrelated to my major. I plan to use my downtime to learn chemistry, anatomy, active ingredients...

Most of my learning materials are printed in A size papers, ANSI standard, which is perfect to be stacked, put in a portfolio with clipboard and study on the go during downtime.

Obvious solution would be to use a portfolio bag, but I wanted to ask you if you can think of something better.

I always thought like this: I'm there to work and earn money, not to make friends, not to fake a friendship with any manager. If they fire me, no manager is going to ask me how I'm holding up or what my plans for the future are. What may look like a friendship is all fake.

There is, however, a manager where I work at that everybody agrees she is friendly and goes the extra mile to help employees. When I say everybody I mean that literally, none of the coworkers I asked said anything remotely bad about this person. At my company there are other managers everybody agrees are narcissistic morons and everyone hates them.

I had an argument with this manager everyone likes and after thinking about it, it was mostly my fault we raised our voices. She raised her voice first but because I wasn't listening to her because she triggered me.

I feel bad about it and I can't believe I'm writing this, but I'd like to have a private conversation with her to apologize and explain why she triggered me. She also does typical things any manager does that I find very unfair that I want to explain so she maybe stops it.

Is being honest and having such a conversation a stupid idea?

There are moments when every laboratory wants you at once but even then they take it easy and a person cannot be at two places at the same time.

I don't know if it's really going to be this relaxed but it really looks so.

I was thinking loading my smartphone with books, find a quiet place and read, learn something.

Instead of smoking I could stretch and do some easy pilates and yoga.

my family are Taiwanese-Americans. I was born in the US, but I grew up in a Taiwanese/Chinese household. I write both Taiwanese and Chinese because my grandparents were Chinese nationalists (KMT) who fought and lost to the communists and left China with Chiang Kaishek when he retreated to Taiwan. We're from Guangdong.

Even though my grandparents spent most of their adult life in Taiwan and America, they still identify as Chinese. They still vote for the KMT and consider Taiwan a part of a democratic China, not the PRC but the ROC.

I don't identify with an authoritarian China that suppresses freedom of speech, press and religion, commits cultural genocide against the Uyghurs, dilutes Tibetan culture and wants to annex democratic Taiwan. I wouldn't like living in a country like that.

But that's exactly what an uncle proposed me: some months ago he bought a house in Guangdong, a house he offers to our whole family. If I want, he says, I can live with him for free, he's even offering me to let me live at his condo when he's not in China (travels to America and Taiwan a lot).

I don't see it: I'm politically active, actually support Taiwanese independence and I don't believe I could keep my mouth shut if a Chinese starts telling me that Taiwan is a part of China every time I tell them I an actually Taiwanese. The conversation could go south really fast if they start to repeat communist propaganda about helping Uyghurs escape poverty (just an example out of several). I could land in jail.

My uncle says I should forget about politics and enjoy the scenery and local food. I still don't see it.
