I think that I'll go this way, thanks. I don't have transistors, but I have a 2 relay Ethernet board.

[–] peregus@lemmy.world 0 points 9 months ago

It depends, usually just some minutes, but during the summer it could be more. I'd like (the ideal result) to find a way that just works in any case.

Totally agree. They could be the stars of their repository

In the office we have an automation system that talks in modbus. Right now I have Node Red that receives data from modbus (via IP), sends it to MQTT and send messages from MQTT to modbus. In HA I have 15 MQTT climates that works. I want to bypass Node Red; I've added an automation that gets triggered when a MQTT values arrives and sends the new value to mobus:

alias: Climate_update_modbus_setpoint_studio1
description: ""
triggers:
  - trigger: mqtt
    topic: home_assistant/thermostat/setpoint/Studio1
actions:
  - data:
      hub: picnet
      address: 1099
      value: "{{ (trigger.payload | float * 10) | int }}"
    action: modbus.write_register
mode: queued

The problem is that the modbus change takes a lot.

  • I change the climate setpoint, after about 0.5 seconds the MQTT value changes and the automation gets triggered
  • the modbus register changes in a range of about 0.5-3 seconds
  • sometimes the automation gets triggered and I see the trigger bar yellow instead of blue and the modbus register changes after longer

With Node Red I have no problem with modbus. What can I check to try to find the source of the problem?

Only through SFP+ I think that the only option would be to add a second NiC. Thanks!

[–] peregus@lemmy.world 0 points 9 months ago (7 children)

I did think about that option, but the onboard NIC is connected to the ONT (fiber connection) and the SFP+ is off when the server is off so it can't receive WOL packets. By the way, thanks.

I've installed an APC BX950MI-GR and connected it to my Proxmox server via USB. It works: it turns off the server after x minutes after the power loss and it gets turned off by the command upsdrvctl shutdown, when the powers come back on, the UPS turns on and so does the server. The problem is if the power comes back after the server receive the power off signal and before the UPS powers off, in this case the UPS simply goes back in the normal state and the server...stays off. How can I turn it back on? Thanks!

I'm gonna give you my setup even if it's not what you've asked. I use Tasker to automatically start GPSlogger whenever Içm not connected to a known WiFi. GPSlogger sends data to NodeRed (it could send the directly to Traccar) that sends it to Traccar and Dawarich (if you don't know it, try it!). You could easily send the position to HA with "call service" or an HTTP request

The SSD nowadays have a very high write limit, unless you'll keep writing data on them constantly, you'll never worn out. You will have to write about 500 times the whole SSD to wear it out (some thousands for enterprise SSDs).

I've used about 10 years ago too, but I've heard that now it needs a Mikrotik device but I've nver had the time to test it

[–] peregus@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Can it discover non Mikrotik devices?

Why Tailscale AND Headscale? Arent't they the same thing?

I have 3 servers:

  • my house
  • my sister house
  • my parents house

My server has a lot of services (Nextcloud and Immich the ones that use more space), the other 2 servers only have Home Assistant, Frigate and some shared folders. On my server I use Backrest to backup locally and on Wasabi, the other 2...well...are not backed up 🙈 ...yet!

I was thinking to buy a couple of 14/20TB drives and install them in my parents and sister servers so that each server can backup data on the other 2. The backup will be done locally on all the servers with Backrest. How do I copy the backups across servers? Should I use Syncthing or is it better to use one repository per location on each Backrest? Or...other ideas?

Thanks!

What kind of attitude?

the source code for freeware is typically not made available

Typically it different than never. It means that sometimes the source code is made available and is the case of FOSS.>

[–] peregus@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Unlike with free and open-source software, which are also often distributed free of charge, the source code for freeware is typically not made available.

It clearly says "typically", which includes the software that does open source the code.

Yesterday I was reading the post about the FUTO keyboard where there were a lot of messages deleted by moderators.
I've commented there

What the heck happened with all the messages deleted by moderator?

And it got deleted. Right now you can only see 4, but I've counted 19 messages moderated and the post has been locked. Why?
I've had a look ad the modlog and the messages don't seems to violate any policy (now they've removed them in the modlog too).

I'm pinging here lemmy.ml admin and the mods of the open source community where the post was posted so they can have their say about it and clarify the situation to me.
@kevincox@lemmy.ml @CrypticCoffee@lemmy.ml @Lettuceeatlettuce@lemmy.ml @Cloak@lemmy.ml @davel@lemmy.ml @dessalines@lemmy.ml @nutomic@lemmy.ml @JoeBidet@lemmy.ml @cypherpunks@lemmy.ml

If I'm getting something wrong, please let me know, I'm here to discus and understand if I'm getting something wrong or if something went wrong in the moderation. Thanks!

Down here you can see the deleted comments.

P.s. I'm writing here because I think that this post on lemmy.ml wouldn't last long.

Everytime I use Jellyfin I have to add a filter to see only not watched movies, is it possible to save the filters based on users?

Edit: I'm using the web GUI

I want to switch from Windows to Linux for my office PC.
I will be using multiple Windows VM because in the office we use multiple software that runs only on Windows (maybe we'll switch to something else, but right now I need the VMs) and because i like to snapshots and go back in time when I test new software.
I thought about Ubuntu because it seems to be the most user friendly.
I always work with a tons of opened windows (mainly Firefox) and I like to have a place for each of them, Right now on Windows I use DisplayFusion that creates multiple virtual screens (7, 4 or the 32" horizontal monitor and 3 on the 28" vertical one, both 4K), I've attached the configuration.
So, the question: is there a software that works kinda like DisplayFusion? (virtual screen each with it's own taskbar, maximize in each of them, remember the position of each window, ...).

P.s. Can I pass only some USB port to a Windows VM using KVM?
Pp.s. Is it possible to use Premiere on a Windows VM? Would it run smooth?

Years ago I came across filecoin/sia decentralized data storage and I started trying them but then I stopped due to lack of time. Some days ago I've heard in a podcast about a kind of NAS that does kinda the same thing: it spreads chunks of data across other devices owned by other users.

Is there a service that does this but with your own hardware or, even better, something open source where you can have X GB as far as you share the same amount of space plus something extra?

It would be great for backup.

My Internet provider just installed me a 2,5Gbps fiber connection. It arrives with a single fiber connected to a GPON ONT (ZTE ZXHN F6005) connected with an RJ45 cable to the 2,5Gbps port of a 5530 Fritz!Box router. I'd like to bypass both the router and the ONT, do you think that it's possible? For the router my provider says that it's possible and it provided me the connection parameters, but for the ONT I've no idea. I would need a singe fiber SC/APC 2,5Gbps SFP+ adapter that I cant seem to find. Can anybody help me? 'm based in Europe.

Fellow selfhoster, do you encrypt your drives where you put data to avoid privacy problems in case of theft? If yes, how? How much does that impact performances? I selfhost (amongst other services) NextCloud where I keep my pictures, medical staff, ...in short, private stuff and I know that it's pretty difficult that a thief would steal my server, buuut, you never know! 🤷🏻‍♂️

Every time I try to access this community, ther's some kind of problem with the server. If you have a look at the status page, it's almost all orange/red. The problem aren't DDoS attack since the server is behind Cloudflare protection. Admin/mods, why don't you move this community to a different ~~server~~ instance? I'm not accusing anybody, I know that maintain a server can be a challenging sometimes, I just want to enjoy this community!

Please!

@Loki

Hi all! I used to be a daily r/selfhosted lurker and a bit active user. Since the Reddit saga I thought that r/selfhosted would be one of the first and bigger community to move to Lemmy due to the IT knowledge of all of their users and the sensitivity about self host/privacy/open source, but I see that not only the community is still all there, but it's rising. :( That really makes me sad. How can we convince the mods there to move people here? Is it allowed to talk about Lemmy on Reddit or do we risk of being banned?
