YUP! This is exactly why I'm so passionate about it. Awfulness still happens, but it feels organic like the original days of the web.

We have set up a moderated auto-follow index for Peertube at ptindex.btfree.org. This is just a list of Peertube instances we found to be good quality PT instances. > > > > > > If you know anyone that could/should be added, please message and we'll look at the PT instance to add. > > > > > > Everyone can feel free to use our PT Index if they'd prefer, instead of the public one or manually adding each instance.

I'd do everything exactly the same, but not be a public assholes.

I'm not personally. I'd run a VPN for others to connect in. Apparently a lot of folks just expose it to the internet and then enforce logins.

rats scavenging for the last vestiges of growth in a world that hates them at the moment. Will the rats compromise or will they eat each other? My vote is on the latter.

lol that's the BEST way to get the RIGHT answer on the internet. Put something up, say it's X and someone will tell you you're wrong and it's Y. Easier than asking how to do X. :-D

Someone should tell Trump that Microsoft is out sourcing cloud business which is worth BILLIONS.

Microsoft promising to build infrastructure in the EU directly hurts American jobs. :-D lol Trumps Tarrifs that scared the world have responded by defending themselves, US companies boosting their economies by building there and then the US jobs will be needed less as the work they're doing now witll be in the EU.

Trumps Tarrifs have directly boosted the economies of others while directly hurting ours and it has absolutely nothing to do with the tangible goods that Trump cares about.

Forgot to post this here long ago. Don't like self promoting, but haven't seen other videos.

Here's a video I did where I'm running a Hetzner VPS for only $8/month and I've simulated 70+ open connections without any kind of issue.

Lots of folks think that the more people watching, the more CPU power. That's not true. Number of quality of streams is what constitutes CPU required. So if I have 2 qualities, you want at least 3 CPUs. If you have 8 qualities, you probably want something like 10.

Your mileage may vary, but the most people watching, just equates to more bandwidth. And the Linux kernel is very good at opening connections and managing them, so it's VERY low CPU usage.

If bandwidth does become an issue, you could always use a CDN or S3 bucket in front of your Owncast.

Owncast Stream whatever you want on your own platform and announce natively to the Fediverse!

IDK why but tons of folks think it's not feasible as they need million dollar computers. I've streamed to 70+ open streams, albeit as a test, on a like $5/month VPS. The key is that the resources needed are how many qualities you're transcoding, not how many folks are viewing. Yes bandwidth is needed for each viewer, but that's significantly less than people imagine.

Full transparency I run the !owncast@lemmy.world community, but I'm in no way affiliated with the project. I just love open platforms and open source.
