When I go to a restaurant, I do not mind that the staff knows me. If I am a regular, I do not mind if they know my favourite dish and ask if I want it or suggest other dish I also may like.

I do mind if the restaurant keeps a note of everything I ever ate and is now sharing that information with dates attached with all restaurants.

What I absolutely dread is if now the restaurant is sending me unwarranted letters with their new menu options.

While this metric seems like a big win to evaluate poverty, it does not behave very well mathematically. Nobody makes infinite money/wealth, which makes wealth per day a stable metric. However, if someone makes very close to 0 wealth, the day per wealth metric will explode to infinity. One single individual can skew the day per wealth metric.

Other lemmees suggested to use the median. Or you can also try to incorporate the living cost by dividing the income by the cost of living. Maybe looking into quartiles or mean less multiples of standard deviation? Idk

If the UK is like Ireland, house slippers, pyjamas and a robe are good enough to go outside.

What is the context compression that the article refers to?

This can turn out to be a great way to help businesses and society in general. If these bots start to cooperate, this could be an organisation of bots. Like a company or an NGO or similar.

All bots have some sort of limitation, from hallucinations to loss of focus (short memory). I am curious of what happens if they come together to overcome their shortcomings. Just like organised teams in companies, with a given purpose and specialised knowledge.

Also, isn't a steady state power consumption of a data centre easier to manage than homes flipping toasters on and off? I suppose that the inefficiency drives up the costs for home usage

As someone who rode a motorbike, I can tell you people do not see bikers. Car drivers look at motorbikes, but their brain does not acknowledge their existence. An exhaust that is not obnoxious but is still loud-ish is a great safety mechanism.

Temos tempo compadre, isto é para ir recolhendo informação. Eu venho a Lisboa de tempos a tempos, cada vez posso ir a um sítio diferente.

Plants took control of a species that now nurtures them, fights off their predators and weeds out the competition. That species even goes to the extent of damaging its own health to keep the plants happy with pesticides and other questionable chemicals. In return, the plant bribes the species with some edible part.

Alguém que já tenha contribuído sabe se é possível visitar a árvore?

Não tenho produto nenhum da Meta. Não me faz muita falta.

Boas!

Estou à procura de um sítio para ir comer um brunch em Lisboa! Ovos benedict, panquecas, meias de leite excessivamente caras... o costume!

Sugestões?

Hi! What alternatives are there to Google Wallet? I am only looking for a secure app that allows me to pay with my phone instead of a card, I do not really care about the rest of functionality

Hi!

I am trying to access portugal@lemmy.pt. For some reason, I can only read old posts. I also tried to comment on one of the older posts and it did not get through to the instance.

Is there anything wrong with the Portuguese instance? Or is it feddit.org? Or maybe is it me? Help please, I am new to lemmy and the Fediverse!
