Seems legit to me. I found a 2017 Twitter post with this in it.

A less cropped version of the same photo, showing some natural yellowing and the three hole punch on the bottom where this page was in a binder

For years, mine was this gif I saw on UsVsTh3m in 2013. It had no context, and the only hint to its origin was the barely legible "29. 暑〜い!" overlay. I had a guess that this was from a Japanese TV talent show. I wanted to find the original video, but the trail went cold.

Years later, I don't know how, I heard of a series of Japanese TV specials called Kesou Taishou, known overseas as Masquerade. UsVsTh3m got bought by the Mirror and their post was taken down, but I still had the gif. My Google Translate research skills had improved, so I looked up Masquerade on Japanese Wikipedia and searched all the episode guides for 暑〜い!, and in the shows from 2007, I found it! It was entry 29 in the 78th special, and it won third place there.

I try not to post things that don't have a legal source, so I quietly updated my blog post and didn't mention it anywhere else. Until...

Three months ago, my partner started getting YouTube recommendations for this show. I checked, and the show's new official YouTube channel had just uploaded this performance a few days earlier. I made a better gif of it and posted it to !gifs@lemmy.world , and they liked it!

an old gif of a Kesoh Taishou costume performance; a man in a blue elephant mascot walks in, drops his balloons and his sign, and takes off the mascot suit onstage; still too hot, he loosens up, sits on his mascot suit head, and collapses; a small girl climbs out through the man's shirt like she was wearing him as a suit, and she greets the audience

Come to a good city that hasn't fallen to the fascists. Here in Columbus, we're fairly insulated from the psychopaths who don't care who they hurt. That stuff doesn't fly here. We actually have some compassion for our neighbors here.

My intuition tells me this is the correct timing to post this song from the Addams Family musical. No news, no evidence, just intuition.

Holy crap, that sucks! Why can't those scrapers just scrape each other? I'm sorry, I didn't want to pressure you to open up to that kind of abuse. I want to think of ways to help this situation, but you're probably 10 steps ahead of me. Thank you for trying so hard.

5.71MB is plenty generous. I'd give up 5MB of that if we could have anonymous browsing again. I can't recommend Mbin to people if they have to log in to see anything. Would converting all uploads to WebP lighten the load?

I'm on @jerry@infosec.exchange 's cursed Mbin instance, and I can upload GIFs as images. The upload filesize limit here is 6,000,000 bytes with the drawback that I can't upload in better formats like MP4 or WebP.

a GIF of I think South Park: The Stick of Truth's difficulty selection, where the player's skin color makes the game more difficult; "easy" is white, "very difficult" is black

Have vision-impaired users of Lemmy settled on an app or a front-end to use? I'm an Mbin user, so I don't get to mess with those apps very much.

Thank you; this is good feedback. Mbin pulled my alt text from my other recent post of this artwork, so it lost where I said this is Summer heat by Wenjun Lin. Sorry about that!

It took me a little bit to understand this surreal scene, and then to look up the two main characters' names and where they're from. In his descriptions, the artist was mostly concerned with telling us this is a crossover between his own characters and a Tencent mascot. I didn't actually describe them very much, since the real draw here is the strange free-standing block of water with fish inside, and then Little Song swimming even though she isn't visibly in the water herself. Maybe I should describe the situation first, and then the characters in it.

Yes, chocolate, for its caffeine content. The darker, the better.

At the moment, it's Maya's theme from Killer Instinct 2013. It's an 8-minute long banger and I never get tired of it. But, my absolute favorite track changes every time I think about it.

Edit: Yup, I just remembered Nobuo Uematsu's Final Destination theme and holy crap! Now that's my absolute favorite.

My posts are almost all visual content, and I've started including alt text in all my posts. Lemmy, Mbin and PieFed all support alt text with their default front ends, and Photon has it too. How good is my alt text? Am I writing too much or too little? Am I getting the necessary details and context across concisely enough? What can I change to make my alt text work better for you?

This illustration is Summer heat by Wenjun Lin, found on Artstation, Weibo, and Instagram.

From Life Magazine's August 9, 1948 issue. Philippe Halsman is famous for asking famous people to jump. For his photo of Salvador Dalí, they went above and beyond. Halsman's assistants threw those cats at least 26 times, but the cats were apparently unharmed and dry. We can't say the same for Halsman and his assistants.

I believe this was on live TV in 2007, before shows like America's Got Talent where the production staff actually assists the performers. There was a perfectly logical place for the girl to hide.

I did increase the speed to 220%, but only to match the gif I found online in 2013. My goal was to remake that old gif with the newly released 1080p YouTube clip as a base, increasing its framerate, cropping less, and using better compression.

Oh! I didn't know Lemmy had a !wtf@lemmy.wtf . Welp, I'm subscribed now. I'm happy my remake of a 2007 Japanese TV gif made it, and with its alt text intact sometimes!

Official art with no official online source, but it's on Tumblr and Minitokyo
